believe me, i cut back on polycount as much as an "automated process" will allow. some of the pieces of my models loose detail and quality when polycount is reduced, i do a lot of back and forth trying to keep as much detail while reducing polycount and keeping a sensible edgeflow for uv mapping.

Scary !! For these higher-poly models, have you thought of doing varying 'levels of detail' polys ??
