Description

No matter our age There is a place within us That remembers And longs for And loves Our lost innocence. For me now, my life seems to end and begin again on the day my beloved died. It was a year ago , on June 17, 2006, that I posted an image called 'The Lion's Roar', not knowing that within hours my soul mate of thirty years would leave me. On that day I lost my love ... I lost my innocence. I no longer believe in happily ever after, but I still believe in the beauty, the wonder, and the healing power of nature, art, and love. The love I have received from my family, the hugs from my grandchildren, the birth of my new grandson, the love and support from past and newfound friends and artists here, have all kept my spirit going. And doing my art, and viewing others art, has kept my spirit growing. The beauty of nature has been so healing, and the kisses from my doxies have kept the joy alive in my heart. It has been a year of indescribable heartache for me, a year of change and challenge, and transformation, a year of loneliness beyond anything I can put into words, a year of deafening silence, a year of living without LJ's music, a year without LJ's love. But I have survived when I thought I wouldnt. I have done things I thought I couldn't, I have created over a hundred images, and I am learning to have a new relationship with myself, and with my beloved, a relationship of being grateful for the love, the life, and the memories and passion we shared. I want to give a special hug to all who have been so supportive of me, of my art, this past year. I will be forever thankful for the gift of your images, of your caring, and your friendship. Carol Image credits and notes: Another in my AFRICA- Survival in the Wild Series, created in Photoshop CS, using a cub photo compliments of Shannon and Jonathan, painting techniques, and a painted skies background by Ferguson. I thought about what I would post on this anniversary and decided on lions, because the year began and ended with lions. Lions have always held special meaning to me since my childhood, for their beauty and strength. Butterflies symbolize transformation and this one is filled with hearts. And those wildflowers grew close to our home here in Colorado.

My heart breaks for you but I am proud of you as well. You have come through so much and survived what you thought you would not. If I could reach out and give you a supportive hug, I would. Bravo to you and, as always, amazing talent and beauty in your work. I think you pour your love into each image.

You have so shared your grief with us in your lovely art in such a way that is most touching. Your art shows so much within it, and is always so beautiful! I too lost the love of my life now four years ago, and my son also many years ago. It never really gets easier, just more peaceful. They say it gets easier with time, but they're wrong, but it does get different. You find joy in your memories and the joy in the memories gets stronger. You become so grateful for their having graced your life at all. You never stop missing them. You never stop thinking of them. There's a place left empty they left in you, but you fill that place with the love you had for them. And, you begin to smile more at the mere mention of them. And, you smile because they loved you.

I do not think there are words, or perhaps I cannot think of the right ones to use here. The image is stunning alone, but your words gave me pause, brought forth tears. I think you are so very brave, Carol.
