Vue F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Oct 27 5:23 pm)
Sorry about that. I've been so busy with other things that I haven't gotten around to zipping up some of the materials and such that I've been making for my images. I suspect that once Vue becomes more widely used around here we'll see more items in the free stuff section. Kate (who will be adding a few things later this week for sure)
I also notice that at e-on itself, free download from user is not as much as compare to Bryce and Poser. The number of Vue user likely is not as much as program user of MC products. Given time, I believe the number would grow. I also understand that the majority Vue user are Europeans and being from France, Italy etc...and the language barrier concern, this could be the reason of the quick wide spread of Vue. Bryce and Poser with RDS 5.5 (a modelling program itself from MC)seem to be in a more suitable position over just Vue itself. I am not sure how many Vue user can actually use a modelling program or most of them are 2d artist like myself. It would be good that if the majority of Vue user someday can do modelling, I think we all would see much more things. Someone by the name of Bongo gave a tutorial of how to convert Bryce stuff for use with Vue. I understand that there are plenty to be have from this method, but is it right to take someone else contribution, convert it and put it in the Vue Free Stuff....I don't know. Anyway, we are all very new and we have to give ourself sometime. Bill
Hi Guitta, What I meant was, is it all right for Vue user like us to take stuff (like preset, material, obj etc...) or whatever from Bryce and use a converter utility like 3DWIN or someothers and put it up at Vue Free stuff for the rest to download. I know it is all right just for in house and non commercial purposes. For example, if you take a object model from 3Dcafe and have it converted to VOB format and have it put at the Vue Free download, who should deserve the credit and is this okay with the person who actually created the mesh? Yes I have 3DWIN utility but never use it yet. Bill
Mmm, yes i apologize too, I will post stuff soon (materials, and objetcs). To Bill: I think it's not a bad thing to use other people's stuff in our creations and to share them. For example in the Poser community, they are glad and proud to see their stuff used by other users, they only ask credits from time to time. We are about to know a great movement around Vue and imo, we must use all stuff we can and all the ways we find, to create more and more. If we find such a quantity of stuff on the net, it is for use them, whatever the application is. Sorry for my English, i hope you'll understand what i mean. Best wishes Pascal
Hi Bill, Hi all, All the objects you find on the web have an author, but mostly nobody knows who. Some people collects this objects and says "I found it on the web". That's all. Here is on of this kind of sites : http://www.utz-oliver.de/ Sure you will need 3DWin to convert files for Vue. Regards, Guitta

Bill, I remember the tutorial you were talking about, I can't find it tho. That was convert Bryce materials to Vue. Do you happen to recall where it is? I personally would not post models or materials I didn't make myself. Unless I got the author's permission of course. Most model authors specifically say do not redistribute, so I would err on the side of caution. I know I have a lot more .vob objects and a few mats I have thought of upleading, but I guess I just think no one would have a use for them. Most of them really aren't that great. But I'll go thru them again. Gail
Hi Gail, You word it very well..."I personally would not post models or materials I didn't make myself. Unless I got the author's permission of course. Most model authors specifically say do not redistribute.." and it was what I am trying to say. Guitta - please take note, its not good or nice to say that its from the Web. It is also very messy and difficult to try and find what you have downloaded and who the authors are. I have downloaded tons and till date I have never use a single one of them. But very soon I will...only those I personally feel that it is very "qualified". Gail, I have asked of BloodSong to help me out to upload a preset of the splash that I used to texture for the water splashing effect for the "Hungry Bass". I could not upload it because for Vue Free Stuff, it require a web site to be linked and I do not have one at the moment. He is also working on a tutorial for the "Hungry Bass". As for Bongo tutorial on converting Bryce stuff for Vue usage, I'll try and find it for you. It may be in the "3D Application" category before Vue own Forum was started...I am not sure. Bill
Bill, I think it is quite OK to use others models in pictures, that is why the auhors made them available. I do try to keep track of where I got them and to mention it when I post the picture. Not only to give due credit, but so others can find them too. Making the actual model available is different. Zygote is the same way....do whatever kind of pictures you want, but don't redistribute the models. I think we Vue users can fill up the FreeStuff with our own stuff. I can't wait to see your watersplash material! Gail
Concerning the copyright-thing: Everyone is free to do whatever he pleases with the models I made. Especially if you wish to improve something on the model (like creating a UV-Map - I hate doing this myself.) The only restriction I have to make is that no model may be sold or used in a collection. (And of course: No professional (TV, Movies) use without giving me all the credit available (Kissing my feet, 50% of everything, Writing my name in 100foot neon-letters on the highest building in New York, making me President of the World for Live) One other thing I wanted to say: I didn't want to blaim anyone for taking something and not participating in the exchange himself. I just wanted to ask if all the others out there feel the same way about this exchange I do. About the european thing: Sure, many users of Vue are Europeans, but there should be no such thing as a language barrier - I have learned English for 8 Years in school and every European should have learned english at school for about that long. I have mailed a lot of people over here and most of them speak an acceptable english.
Joerg I agree with you for all (everyone can feel free to use my models/materials...)the only restrction for me would be the commercial use, but i think that my produces are not so good to be used in a commercial project: i've seen Toy Story 2 last week and i'm very far of this kind of quality ;-) cheers Pascal

Hm... the Vue file exchange seems to be a bit sluggish at best. While I cannot really complain about it (I have been rather lazy myself...) I do fear that this is not just the effect of lazyness - there are only 5 people posting to the freestuff-section at all. Either the freestuff-section here is only known to a very small group or people are not really interested in this file-exchange. While I do enjoy the exchange (I simply love Bloodsongs clouds, Silverbranch's Sun and all the other great stuff.) I find it a bit unfair that only a few participate. There is a lot of stuff that could be sent in (Shaders, Sky-Presets). Sorry, but I am quite a bit frustrated because of this. Lanover
