Subject: Prop replace fixing

Kevin ( ) posted Sun, 16 January 2000 at 11:15 PM · edited Mon, 20 April 2026 at 10:18 AM

You could probably repair it by hand, by editing the cr2 or pz3 directly. But it would probably not be much fun. You'd need to have a similar file with the figure with all the legs to compare, then open them both in a text editor and compare the changes. But, as a general rule, in the start of the CR2 for the figure with the prop there will be a custom geometry line and an obj file in place of the lines that all the other body parts have. Get rid of the custom geometry line (just for that body part) and make it look like the others It should look something like storageOffset 0 0 0 geomHandlerGeom 13 lShin Then you have to go into the CR2 and find the body part that was replaced. The last line for a normal CR2 body part is custom material 0 } At the end of the modified one it will say something like custom material 32 and be followed by a few dozens of lines of materials. then closed with a } edit this to look like the other cr2. now open this figure and it should be the figure without the prop leg. You can do the same thing in a pz3. but PZ3s are much larger files. I would suggest saving the figure as a cr2, editing it, then replacing it in the pz3. But save copies of the files before modifying them. Making a mistake in the cr2 (forgeting a { or something) will cause poser to give a c exception error. If that happens go back into it and edit it and fix the error. Kevin

Kevin is responding to this: "Does anyone have any idea how to effectively remove/restore replaced body parts? I have been fighting with a .cr2 all day. I have removed the "geomCustom" section and restored the "channels" section for the parts in question. The restored parts are not appearing in Poser. I suspect it has something to do with materials assignment. Can I re-assign a material without remapping the .obj? 2. Re: Undoing "replace body part with prop" by JeffH on 01/16 22:23 I think Kevin Rose may know how to do that. Post this message to the Technical forum." Thanks, Kevin, for the response. I managed to get as far as you suggest on my own, through some lucky guesswork. I now have an invisible part on my figure. I checked, and it is not a naming or spelling issue. I am assuming that there is a materials problem somewhere. I deleted a "custom material" clause as part of the custom geometry I edited out. I need to re-direct the newly fixed body part to its original material assignment. The material that should apply to the part is in the .obj file and still part of the "materials" part of the .cr2. I tried deleting the Geometries .rsr. Any ideas?

Check the visibility setting of the replaced part? The key one is the first hidden= setting on the body part. It should be set to 0. If there is no materials setting you get random colors, not invisible parts.

I haven't checked in the .cr2, but the missing part is listed as visible in the hierarchy editor. I had the random color thing going on halfway through the process. I am trying to reinstate catsuit forearms that had been replaced with glove props. One forearm was visible, the other was randomly colored. The colored one still had a "custom materials" clause left from the custom part. I thought pasting in new information from the catsuit .cr2 might solve both problems, but instead I ended up with two invisible forearms. I'll check the "hidden=". Thanks.

If you e.g. replace body parts, always keep a copy of the unmodified version.

I know, I know! D'Oh!!! I thought I had, until Saturday. My files are in disarray. Mistakes were made. Thank you for your patience and assistance!

My files are in disarray I know from my own experience that it is too easy to let the inside of my computer get as if burglars had been through it, until I went through it with Windows Explorer and had a thorough tidying out snd sorting session.
