Subject: Bad news about GKDantas

yarp ( ) posted Sat, 27 March 2010 at 11:32 PM · edited Sun, 31 May 2026 at 1:35 PM

Hi,
our friend and fellow member GKDantas aka Marcelo Teixeira recently had big troubles in his Brazilian hometown.
Here is what he writes about the event on his website (www.carraralounge.com):
"...
Hi people, I will be out for while and hope people here stay talking. My house was robbed, my kid, wife and myself was tied and they stolen everything here, computers, video games and other eletronics. Everything is right now and nobody was hurt.
Now I am moving with my family to another city (that we already would do in the end of this month), but now we have nothing to start and I would like to ask for a help, not to get another computer, but only for a new playstation 2 to my kid that lost a old celeron computer, a PS2 and a lot of games.
If you want to help me you can do a donation or buy something at Daz3D or Renderosity from my stores. I will try to ask them to promote a 50% off so other can contribute.
..."

So if you have anything to purchase about Carrara - and even if you don't - please pay a visit to his Carrara store and help our fellow out:
http://www.renderosity.com/mod/bcs/index.php?vendor=55433

or make a donation to his Paypal account
euqfiz@euqfiz.com.br

Thank you in advance for any contribution or else,

Don't want to appear a grouch, and really sorry with what has happened to Marcello, but would one not have organised  house and contents insurance before getting Playstation and Computers?

When our house burned,,and we lost everything...one of the things that my son lost was his baseball card collection.  This seemed to trouble him a lot, along with everything else...it was his way  of taking his mind off of losing everything...to concentrate on one thing.  His friends got together and each gave him a couple of cards from their own collection to get him started again...it seemed to comfort him as if he still had something familiar to hold onto...its hard on a child to lose everything.

Insurance takes a long time to sort out...kids need the comfort of something familiar when they find everything is gone that they are used to having.

Hope this makes sense.

When I was a teenager, studying English, I spent a month in Brighton (England) boarding with a family. The husband worked for an insurance company and the wife was perfectly OK with his job being about finding, in each case, something, anything which might allow the company NOT to pay the insurance. They lived in a large house, with a big garden, in the best and most expensive area of one of the most expensive towns in England in that period... so I assume that he had a share in the not-payed sums.

The moral? perhaps you are better off dealing with street thugs than with institutionalized ones.

Just a few points.to refocus this thread to what was the intent of yarp ( as I see it)
1 - GKDantas has made significant contributions to this community with sharing his knowledge and Carrara  Lounge
2 - He is in need of assistance in this difficult time.
3 - I'm off to GKDantas's store to get some good stuff and do my part to help out.

Also I would like to point out that bwtr has been a valuable asset in learning Carrara and both of these gentlemen have given freely of their time to help others here and at other sites. They both seem like nice gentlemen whom I admire. I wish the best for both of them.

Can we join hands in a circle and sing kumbaya now? 😄

I already own all I want of GKDantas' products. Is there a way to donate some $?

Yes, the e-mail address is to pay with Paypal. As for Insurances I don't know how it works in Brazil.

At the moment Marcelo can't anwser this thread because he only has a low speed connection. I told him about the thread and he said: "I will try to follow the thread".
He's eager to come back with us and have a normal life again.

Thank you everybody, even if you just read this thread.

Sorry if my comments have been taken outside of the context intended.

With a wife and 5 children to support I have had stages in my life where I have not had a job, and no money in the bank.

And no money for a bus fare to go to the dole office------A  LONG walk!

I think many of us have been there Brian...or really close. I don't think anyone took your comments as being bad...for me it just brought back memories of the time we also lost everything..
Maybe if we all do what we can to help out...it will ease the burden a little

I must make the point though---sorry

Any child who has a Playstation must be being spoilt at the top end of first world indulgencies?
Even here--- in Australia!

Hi Olivier,
Thanks a lot for our mutual Friend.

btw A message from Marcelo I forgot to report:
"...

I will send a scene that I worked for some weeks now for everyone that do a

donation too.
..."

bwtr, no problem for me, I always favor people expressing what they think. As I said the rules with insurrances are certainly different in Brazil. and since they do their best in our countries to pay minimals (same in France) you can imagine how it goes there.
Not that I mean that Brazil is a third world country, but they still have a frontier, that says it all.

I had a lot to say, but in the end I'm just going to say that I'm glad nobody was physically hurt, especially the kids, but the mental damage is another story.

My thoughts and prayers go out to Marcelo and his family.  I will try to buy something, once I finish figuring out my taxes.  Home invasion robbers are scum of the earth.
