Heh, heh.
Well, looking at all the images so far, the main impression I get is that this is all happening on a cloudy, dreary day. Since they're going on a picnic, I'm assuming that it is not a dreary day. My suggestion would be to add a sunlight to the lighting setup. Place it wherever the HDRI has the sun coming from and adjust. I can see the highlights, but there ought to be more on a sunny day.
Of course, I'm only assuming this is a sunny day. :)
I find I often have to add a sunlight, or some other light to 'help out' the HDRI. I've tried cranking up the HDR intensity, but that never gives me the results I'm looking for.
That's all. Your scenes are always much larger than I usually ever attempt. I usually try to watch when you start one, because there's always something new to learn.
I see Poserdom as a meeting place. There are people that started with Poser/Studio and are used to working close scenes. And there are people that started at some different point in CG. I actually started with game modding. The first CG app I ever bought was Terragen. So I am used to working in the big out doors. I only bought TG to begin with to make Hirez skydomes for the racing game I was modding lol
But ya, that car scene is done with stage lights not day light. It's not done yet though. I want to add some people on the side walk, work on those store fronts. I'm also looking for a better car. It needs to be a convertable, but more of an everyday car. For some reason all I have are sports cars and muscle cars lol My options right now are the S2000 there, a BMW, or a miata that needs to be completely retextured. Right now that miata loks like a kids toy because it is all base colors; I can't read french so I had to find out what shader was what part ![]()
{it's embarising because I took french in school but was studying the teacher more then the languge} ooh lala

No it's not dynaimic now; well not in Studio
But this was done the same way as the hair; same old issues. Long dresses; beyond knee length, don't convert well. So far so good though. One good thing, poser dyncmic clothes are usually simple and low poly so drape well in carrara. ![]()
If you want to try the Poser dynaimc conversion with studio, Planit3d has a big selection of free V3 clothes; yes you will need the mil3 iconic shapes for genesis.
I've been trying to rebuild my Poser dynamic clothes library, I deleted it all a while back ![]()
In my opinion the best bang for the buck when it comes to figures is the head/body morphs, and for genesis/G2F/M the iconic shapes.
I've hit a few V4 dynamic dresses that totally lock up Studio in the process. It's a fairly fast process most of the time. I've got it down to about 3 minute load to finished save. How well this works on props seems to be random, I'm sure it's something obvious I'm over looking.
Thanks booksbydavid, I think I'm up to 3 hours on that. But the "scene" and the "extras" are presets. I have a carrara folder that is all preset scenes, like stonemasons or Jack's sets, with textures and lighting set up. Most of my time on that scene was staging, getting all the characters in place. Even retexturing the car; including fixing the windshield so the glass shader worked right, only took about half an hour.
For me opening a new "set" in carrara is like opening an Xmas present. Some times it's good, some times not, but certain relatives I can count on lol

Cut it apart by it's shader zones, stretch the building and roof, moved lights to fill spaces and clear the back side. Add a projection window, duplicated and moved an interior wall, and duplicated the back door and moved it to the new interior wall.
All the shaders dropped right on the new model, but I had to go in to the modeling room, select uvmapping, and uncheck wrap u values.
Hey, not bad!
The drive-in I went to back in the day also had a huge snack bar attached to the projection room. It also had a playground area right beside it. I remember as a kid being bored with the movie and going back to the play area to play while mom and dad watched the movie. It's a weird feeling to be playing in the dark while there's a giant movie screen flashing and bizarre echoing sound coming from all the speakers attached to all the cars.
Now that was an experience.
We're dateing our selves. The playground will be at the base of the screen in front of the parking area; like the one that used to be here
Even got the old style heavy iron playground equipment.
Is it just me or does it seem that in general, life for kids was a lot more hazardes 50 years ago then it is now?
I don't know if it was more hazardous, but it sure was a lot more fun. I remember glorious days riding around my hometown with my friends on our bikes. We'd stay gone all day and probably travel 20 miles round trip and no one worried about us. I'd walk two miles to the 'local' mom and pop shop for drinks, candy and the odd toy paid for by the deposits I got from collecting bottles on the walk to the store. It was great walking to the store with not money and leaving with a cold drink and some sweet candy.
Those were the days, my friend. :)
And I do miss the drive-in. My kids don't know what they're missing.
Yes, but that was back when your antena only picked up 5 or 6 stations, and at least one was PBS; public broadcasting. lol And your dad had a TV you were allowed to watch some times lol
Hey, PBS was great, introed me to Monty, as well as a bunch of other britcoms.
But ya, we remember when we got mad because we had to stay in all day when the weather was bad
Two of my brothers kids have to take viatem D, you know, the one you get from sunshine. ![]()
I've read that rickets is coming back, an issue caused by lack of sunlight. It was practically wiped out when they made child labor laws. Thank you internet. Well more like parents that don't set restictions and rules.
I had something going here still I posed my big burly thug and he turned in to a super model. I hate when poses carry morphs. Back to square one.

Looks good Stan
I have only been to a Drive-In twice (I didn't grow up in the US), but when I went it was so much fun. Better variety of snacks than at the cineplex.
And yes, life was quite a bit more hazardous years ago. I remember doing all sorts of things that would be frowned upon today.

Years later I realized what made kids fall was fear. I never fell, but did get flustered a few times and stopped. It was an 10" wide ledge; .25m. All you had to do was ride straight. Still, the sort of test that builds character and self confidence that kids seem to be protected from today.
Here he is. Not sure what borked the last time, wasn't actually the pose, so ![]()
"Babes, bullet, bombs... DAMN, I love this job". Duke Nukem.
Genesis in M4's uzilite HD suit. S3's flat top; for some reason M3's wouldn't convert to well. Still trying to get eh rest of the Duke Nukem look together. I'll use Hiro's urben trcking suspenders for the suspender/bandoleres, and I know I have a set of pilots glasses some place ![]()
Why do none of these cafe's have kitchens? Looks like I will need to make a grill and fryer. Not like they would be complex models lol But I am getting the moonshine interior parts 2; has some stuff I need for the snackshack. I've got the moonshine diner on my wish list but I need some of it's parts now lol
Now I am A Jack Tomalin fan. I know his content is going to be good, and I like his style. But what to do with West Park Ablutions?
What can I say, I have all the dream home rooms, grounds, and such; not the furniture, and have never done anything with it till recently. I started building this pool party scene; still working on it, still not happy with the pool water. Still need that one more set of pool poses. Half my wish list is $1.99 items lol
Quote - And yes, life was quite a bit more hazardous years ago. I remember doing all sorts of things that would be frowned upon today.
Grownups always frown on things that are the most fun. :)
I remember my local public park. It was full of gasp metal! Everything. There was a slide, I remember it well. It was metal, hot as anything in the summer, ten feet tall and fast as lightning. That was an awesome slide.
@Stan- Duke Nukem. I haven't thought about him in ages. I need to get that game for my son. He'd love it.

I have a few more tweaks to make, only one nice oak in right now. I want to add a parking lot to the loop end, track down some blank sign models for oneway and do not enter; I have them... someplace
I need to replace that one straight with a path off set, then I can paint the pathes on to the terrain and level it here and there for benches, tables and such.
I think I will make the park a bit of a valley and mirror my terrain on the oposet side. The put in a bunch of benches, maybe a band stand, defenetly a nice fountain; got it, and chess tables. I'll just do up a texture on a stone table.
We'll see where it takes me ![]()
Quote - Well here we go, running in to issues. Now everything I dorp in that scene is stuck on the X axis, I can move them along the Y and Z, but not the X.
I have had this happen sometimes.
If you go into (I'm doing this from memory) the section where you can change scale, and orientation, make sure you unlock everything.
You might need to go to "Custom" and unlock it manually.
I will find out the exact names of what I'm talking about and post it tomorrow if you don't know what I'm talking about.
Sorry. Had to step back from it for a bit. Been playing a game for a few days. But I figured out for some reason constraints were locked on new pieces to the scene. As in they come in with "full" constraint and I have to reset them to none to move them around. But your suggestion got me looking in the right spot to fix it.
Thanks.
Yesterday I got dimensional theory's yosemite HDRI sets 1 and 2. Glad I hadden't counted on using any of the carrara files. None will load to carrara; C8.5. Carrara gives me a file format error for the back ground and the lights will open a new scene, which is actually a problem. I can't bring them in to an exciting scene, everytime I try carrara just opens another scene for the lights.
Now am I going to jump, gripe, complain? No. You know how much HDRIs cost? These 2 packs gave me 12 Hirez nature HDRIs as well as the spherical maps that I can take in to Genetica and manipulate the lighting for different HDRIs; sunset, moonlite, fog, forsets fire. All that for $4, I ain't complaining :D
Still wish I could get my carrara folders together, seems I have mine, DAZ's, 1 in C8.1 and 1 in C8.5. I need to cut Daz's and drop it in mine, then go to the 2 in carrara ones and clear out everything but the scene wizard stuff.
Of coarse I've been saying for a year I need to clear out my Poses runtime and get all those mil1 and 2 poses out of it. lol
New song with that bebop sound. Seemed to fit the theam. Jack has given me a lot to work with, I mean I have plenty for some mad scientist zombie out break. Or any 50's, 60's flash back lol
I was working on one a while back, good idea for a graphic novel, but me being me I got so obsesed with finding the right furniture from the scene in my head, for the hospital waiting room, that it got parked. The reason I like Jack's stuff is I can count on it, I get how he builds, and as evidenced by much he creates, we think alike lol
Seriously, what name would be better for some one doing macabra the Jack? ![]()
Goth isn't makeup you put on, or clothes you ware, it lives, or dies in your heart. It's not frearing the dark, or anything that moves in it. It's reveling in the fact light would be meaningless with out darkness. Dark is not evil, it's just the absence of light. Goth is being excited about the prospect of haughted houses and walks through grave yards. It's not black clothes and guyliner. {although I love deep, dark reds, and could use some "just for men"}.
Yes, I was the kid that had the latest issues of eerie and creepy back in the day ![]()
Quote - > Quote - I've still got a stack of Eerie and Creepy. Ah, the good old days. :) That stuff would send chills down my spine every time.
Yes!
Eerie and Creepy are the best. Great stories and aweesome art.
:)
And Vampirella.
One of the first pictures I ever drew that was anything close to being good was of Vampirella. She was awesome!

It covered it all and had some of the best art work of the time. But then it had some of the most drug induced story lines I've ever read lol
Once I get all these blasted lights set on the Moonshine diner I might put them up as a freebie on the carraracafe.
And here is another goody I stumbled over lastnight while working on this. I was haveing issues with the waitress dres not posing well with genesis. Typical bell dress with no movement. So in Studio I loaded G1, loaded the dress, selected the dress and opened the active pain menu; screen cap provided, selected assists, transfer utility, selected source:scene item: genesis, shape default. Selected target:scene item: the skirt, shape default. selected projection template skirt, then clicked accept.

Well this is turning in to every big scene I work on. It's gotten too big to be easily worked. Even grouping and makeing the groups invisable isn't working. The scene is using 6 of my 8 gig when open and I may have to scale it down considerable to finish what I was up to to begin with.
I've said I have the skill to do Howiesc like scenes, but like Howies scenes they get to the point my comp just wont push them. I could double the ram for $160; but I can't afford the $30 graphics card I need ![]()
I still want the same features in the scene, but I'm going to have to scale it to 1/8 or so.

Genesis again, in V3's fairytail costum, a bit of texture play using displacement; the top. This shows how breast tuck can easily be fixed in Hex. That had a serious bad case of tuck and crumple. In Studio I sent it to Hex and used the smoothing tool to fix it. Send it back as a morph and problem solved. It still could be smoother, but I can't manage it in carrara.
What I really like is how well a simple bit of water can blend a scene. All that excluding the pool is one of Dimension theories yosemite HDRIs.
Oh, lets not forget the smoothed/fixed dress center stretch.
I also bumped up the dpi to 96. Defenetly crisped it up nicely. This is one of those things that make me think presonal presets for the render room would be nice.

Cool.
No seatbelts. Danny and Carol are risk takers. Exciting! :)
Before I say anything more, do you want criticism or not? Don't want to offer if it isn't wanted.
