Great start on this one Brian. I'm sure that they were a welcome sight to the men on the Victory ships. Well over 500 were made.I must not fear.
Fear is the mind killer.
Fear is the little death that brings total
obliteration.
I will face my fear.
I will permit it to pass over me and through me.
And when it has gone past, I will turn the inner eye to see its
path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing.
Only I will remain.

Thanks a million for the link, I didn't know that there were any of these transports still in existance, never mind still going to sea. What a brilliant piece of living history to have preserved. The predessor of this class, the Liberty ships were turned out in huge numbers. I seem to remember that one was built in a record time of one week!
This is what I'm more or less aiming at:

The Liberty class had a very bad design flaw, in rough sea they would break in half! Something like 2,450 of the were made. Without them though, the British would have starved to death.

Hi Tom, I used this site pics as a reference. Its a very good site about PT boats, lots of little nuggets here.

I was looking at those gun mounts... Man. were they complicated pieces of mechanical devices ...
It is hard to comprehend what half of all that metal is for... Thanks for the links..

Are you ever going to consider uv-mapping and texturing this magnificent model of yours...
Can you show at some point the wires and what does the poly mesh looks like on a small section of the boat.. just to get a feel for it...

Very clean modeling Brian... Thank you for letting me see the inner works of the ship..
I wanted to see how dense the poly mesh is.. on a small section of the hull.. but I can now see it would not be so heavy...

I'm really trying to keep everything as simple as possible to keep the size down. All the handrails are square section for instance, rather than pipes. Its a pain to model but a lot smaller in resources and nobody will ever br able to tell I hope.
By the way, I just got my UV Mapper to work!
I'm not sure if I should split the hull into plates or do it with a bump map.
