Subject: prop/morph question

anxcon ( ) posted Fri, 21 January 2005 at 5:57 PM · edited Sat, 14 March 2026 at 4:34 PM

making a prop, wanted to know how to add something 1. prop has a solid part and a dynamic cloth piece can i is there a way to make it so there is only 1 prop in the prop list, but only the "cloth" part of the prop is used in a cloth simulation? 2. is there a way to (using the library with prop selected) to add vertices+dial to a prop? say a shirt prop, and in the libary i click "add pocket" and the vertices are added to the shirt prop (basicly a "make visible switch" but it accually adds them) again only 1 prop stays listed in prop list --* also thx geep for last tut =) but now you inspire a new question lol turning a morph dial applies a morph right away but how do i have this option made?: say i have a drawer, and it isnt just a drawer, it has a lid to it, and there is 2 dials dial 1 "pulls" out the drawer dial 2 "lifts" the lid on it but i want to have the action in 1 dial, so when the drawer is at 50% open, turning the dial more continues to open the drawer, but also starts to lift that lid on it so like: 0 = drawer + lid closed (0% open) .5 = drawer 50% open, lid 0% open .75 = drawer 75% open, lid 50% open 1 = drawer and lid 100% open cuz i want the animation of it to stay on right track without having to have 2 dials and explain about having them set right (so no screwy animations) if i give it out

Hi anxcon,

  1. no - you either have one prop or two props

  2. no - you can not 'add' vertices in Poser - it is not a modeler, per se.
(unless you're using DGS to 'build' something - like a barn - ha ha) ... ;=]

re: animating the drawer & the lid
You can use a Morph Target(MT) to move the drawer because it is a linear motion along ONE axis only.

Lifting the lid requires a rotational motion on more than one axis and using an MT for the lid will cause it to be distorted between the 0.000 and 1.000 positions because it is not a linear movement.

hmm ok how about this dial: 0 = Z 0% / Y 0% 0.5 = Z 50% / Y 0% 0.75 = Z 75% / Y 50% 1 = Z 100% / Y 100% or 0 = Z 0% / Y 0% 0.5 = Z 100% / Y 0% 1 = Z 100% / Y 100% i realize what i want can be done with 2 dials and use keyframes, but its an object im giving away so trying to make it idiot proof but morphing moves the vertices, i want to know if posible to (while dial turns) for it to only apply part of a morph, like 1/2 of it gets ignored until dial passes 0.5 at which point rest starts moving

Hi anxcon, re:" ... like 1/2 of it gets ignored until dial passes 0.5 at which point rest starts moving " - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Um, sorry, but I don't know how to do that. ..... ;=[ It is a little bit like saying you only want the front half of a vehicle to move until you get it above 5kph and then the back half starts moving, no? cheers, dr geep ;=]

exactly ^_^ your last tut you gave me to make a morph was like save pose at dial = 0 dial = 1 i want to save pose at points in middle o_o if P6 has that, would work wonders for mechanics

About the two-part item: why don't you fuse the 2 props into 1 and assign al vertices of the "non-dynamic" part to the Choreographed group? There you are. Having a pocket appear/disappear: the easiest way is modeling the prop including the pocket and assigning the pocket its own material. Set the pocket material to completely transparent if you don't want to see it. You can even animate the settings, so that the pocket can appear somewhen during your animation. The 2 dial to 1 dial trick can also be done using ERC and limits. Somewhere in the vaults of the Poser Technical forum there are some exhaustive threads on how to do exactly that. Hope this helps, Steven.
