About the two-part item: why don't you fuse the 2 props into 1 and assign al vertices of the "non-dynamic" part to the Choreographed group? There you are. Having a pocket appear/disappear: the easiest way is modeling the prop including the pocket and assigning the pocket its own material. Set the pocket material to completely transparent if you don't want to see it. You can even animate the settings, so that the pocket can appear somewhen during your animation. The 2 dial to 1 dial trick can also be done using ERC and limits. Somewhere in the vaults of the Poser Technical forum there are some exhaustive threads on how to do exactly that. Hope this helps, Steven.
