New to Poser? Ask questions here for expert help!
Is it asking for the textures, or are they just not visible in the viewport? If it's the latter, then the shaders aren't compatible with the preview mode. You can try turning off the hardware shading in the preview settings.
Another thing that causes everything to look like a silhouette is a lack of lights in the scene. Check and make sure there is at least one light and that it's on.

I'm glad it was a simple fix. And don't feel bad. The simple fixes are the easiest to overlook. I think our brains are wired to go for the most complicated problem first.

Thanks, for the help information.
I had some other issues as well, for one I have used Jessi Improved for many years, It's the most complete and realistic character for me! there are enough mods to create character that really look like I want.
Well I couldn't find it any more, I thought I had a copy of it but I couldn't find it.
I tried putting it in from files I found but was unable to get to work. After hours of looking for it online I finally gave up and then I thought of digging up one of my old characters. I loaded it into the new version of Poser and low and behold that old figure was fully functional.
All I had to do was load it, set it to zero then give it a name and add it to the library and I had a completely working complete copy of Better Jessie right there and ready to go.
Some how I had probably put the files in to the Registry while messing around with it but it didn't show up in the Library until I loaded the the character and put it in myself.
They really should put it in the new Poser themselves it's by far the most complete character you can get without buying a lot of mods. And I find it a lot easier to pose than most of the other characters.
Of course I'm used to it and have used it since about Poser 6, I'm no sure who created all the many dozens of mods to start with?
Anyone know who did all the work to start with?
If you shoot a mime, do you need a silencer?
I want to help, but I am unsure if I understand the issues you are describing.
You say you have used Poser since Version 6, but much of what you are describing trouble with are basic Poser conventions that pre-date even Poser 6.
By "add to registry" do you mean adding it the Poser Library? When unzipping or installing your Poser content are you making sure you are placing them in your Poser Rutnime Directory?
Since Poser 8/Poser Pro 2010 the Poser runtime is not locked to the software install directory and can be placed by the user, and it is recommended since Windows 7 to select a directory not restricted by windows UAC. Because of this, when you start Poser after installation you need to point it to your Runtime. This link may be useful:

Regarding who made the content in Poser - the content that ships with Poser has been created by a vast group of artists and content creators that has grown and expanded over almost two decades. I am unsure of all of the current content with Poser 13, but in previous versions I know there were products and figures from Sixus1, Traveller, Vanishing Point, Meshbox, Zygote Media, Hivewire3D, Sanctum Art, just to name a few. My own Runtime exceeds 3/4 of a Terrabyte and has too many content authors to be named. I am unsure if there is a document or file available crediting all of the individual content contributors to the Poser Content that is sold with Poser.

Just found this after previous post. The following Video is current to Poser 13 and is by Nerd3D, who is a Poser Guru with vast Knowledge (this video should be stickied somewhere on Renderosity for new poser users really).

Sorry I did mean Runtime not Registry!
If I had a runtime folder I used to just add it to the Poser folder and it would place the files in it the Runtime in Poser in the correct places as I remember.
Or I could just add it to the Library as an additional Library in the Library.
For some reason nothing seem to get loaded during the install, I've never had that happen, it always gave me the opportunity to go through the downloaded content and install it category by category.
I finally got it working by finding the Runtime folder and just adding it to Poser in the program as a new Library and most things started working normally.
The problem started when I tried adding some of my old content. Notable Jessi improved.
I couldn't find the Runtime entry, I've actually have used Poser since version 3 but as I said I'm getting on to 87 years old and my memory isn't what it used to be.
What I need is a guide to adding new content?
I still have a few issues but for the most part everything is working.
I should have said that most of what I did was short animated films, if I can find one I'll post it on here.
I'm going to watch the tutorial that KageRyu posted now.

I am thinking that part of the issue might be where the Poser Installer placed the default Runtime. I am unsure of the default locations with Poser 11+ as the last Poser I installed was 11, but it was the Smith Micro build and I never do a default install (I always change things). When I installed the Bondware version, I simply overwrote the Smith Micro install - and pointed the runtime to the runtime I installed for it.
I agree there should be a better guide, HTML or PDF, that includes manual install and finding the runtime. I would be willing to try to create one, but am unfamiliar with the newer poser (and I have a bunch of unfinished guides and tutorials started a decade ago).
With Poser versions prior to 8/2010 it is easy to locate the default Runtime as it is stored in the programs install directory and these versions were all prior to mainstream x64 operating systems in common usage. While Poser 7 did support external runtimes, the default runtime install was still in whatever directory you installed Poser in (usually C:/Program Files/Smith Micro/Poser/) . While You Can copy and paste the runtime over another, it is not recommended for your main install as their are program components in that runtime and they will over write newer ones. I recommend creating a custom location for your old runtime that is easy to remember, and copying all of your old runtimes to that location. I would start with the oldest first, then you can over-write the newer ones on top and eliminate duplicate entries.
First, if I understand, we need to locate the runtime that contains the files you want (Jessi Improved?). I can try to help. Let us start with What Operating System that version was installed on, and which Version of Poser it was (I think you said 6, but I want to confirm)? I should note, if you are using Mac and not windows I may not be much help. I know Windows (mostly older Windows up through 7).
I can try to help find where the Default content was installed as well, but that may be a bit trickier.
I can try to install Poser 11 on this laptop if I can make room... then I might be able to post some screen shots on setting up the library. That might be a few days off though.

During setup of Poser 13, you can specify the location for the Poser content in the screen titled Set Destination Location. You can either install it to a shared documents folder beneath Users > Public > Documents on the C Drive, or choose Other Location. If you choose Other Location, you can have the content installed in any location you choose. For example, I typically select my D drive, and then Poser installed the content to D:/Poser 13 Content.
I don't advise copying ANY content over another content directory, It can mess things up, especially things like Preferences files and whatnot. .
This page gives a step by step on how to install Poser.
This page tells how to install content from a ZIP archive:
Installing Content from a Zip Archive
The Purchases tab in the Poser 13 library allows you to install content that is included with Poser, and content that you purchase from Renderosity or the PoserSoftware site. The content will be installed in the content folder you specified in the Installing Poser instructions.
As far as finding the Jessi Improved file ... if you are running Windows, I highly recommend a free utility called Everything, by voildtools. It's wicked fast and will help you locate that file in a snap. Then mjust add the runtime that it is in as an external library to Poser 13
Complete and step by step.

Neither of those links is complete nor accounts for a number of details that involve library issues. More importantly they do not address the specific issue with imported libraries not working properly which I was trying to help the OP with.

I found that because I use a 34" UHD monitor I have to change the resolution of the interface in Poser the first thing I do when I install poser, or the type is too small to read.
As a result the line of options above the library wasn't all visible when I did the first install and the message about installing the content wasn't visible on the screen without moving it over.
I finally removed all the stuff including the multiple Runtimes. It's all reinstalled and running correctly now.
The only thing I have left to do is the individual items. I think I have what I need but not in .zip format.
I have a folder called Jessi improved with Cr2 files etc. I'm pretty sure that it, and I have an other folder that is zipped the had Jessi head morphs that is .zipped.
I'll read you link above and then I'll take time to make sure that I do it right later today. Just copying the folder that has the title Runtime on it is the way I member doing it in the past if I placed it in the Poser folder above the Runtime folder it worked.
If you shoot a mime, do you need a silencer?
Just came back to say I finally got it all working.
The real hard part was getting the Jessi Improved installed, that was important because I have everything that goes with that, and I don't need to buy anything to have everything.
The install files were on a Website that has closed, and after looking for the file everywhere I couldn't find anything existing anyplace.
The existing one that I had wouldn't' install.
I finally placed the parts that I had by hand in the Jessi folder but no luck. The only thing that came up was Unable to find the such and such a file. So I wrote the file names down and started looking for them. I found an old Runtime on another hard drive that was from Poser 11.
I had previously tried to import it into Poser 13 but it wouldn't work. But when I started looking for the individual files I located them not in the locations that had anything too do with Jessi but in other characters, so using my stand alone search engine I found them on the other drive.
I copied the from there to the same location in the Poser 13 locations.
I finally got it to start loading minus the chest and hip, but I figured I could get it from where I was and finally just took all the files that I had found and copied and placed the whole thing in the same folder and and the whole body appeared and everything works. What a relief!
I've tried using the other figures but with all the morphs that Jessi Improved has I can make he look like anyone, any Race, Build, Color etc. I do my own textures and so there is no limit and the textures are all in only two maps. One for the head and one for the body. I put them together into one sheet so when I work in Photoshop I can change overall colors Intensity contrast etc. at the same time, and then separate them into the head and body when it's done.
It's going to be great getting back to the way I use to work.
Thanks for the help everyone.
Mike

I downloaded and installed Poser 13, it was kind or a slog, but every thing is downloaded and working except all the textures?
All the items installed, I can see all the items in the menu, and in color!
It says that everything is installed, and it did install everything except the textures in the textures folder, every thing loads as a Silhouette:
Everything else seems to be fine, but it doesn't seem to have put all the textures in the Runtime?
I've spent over an hour looking for where if put them and I can't find anyplace to re down to I found an old copy of my Poser 11 I'm about to try copying that into 13 but if someone knows how to fix it firs I'd be thankful.
I couldn't find any place to just redownload them so I could install them again?
Thanks for the help,
Mike
