Subject: Question about Poser on 2 computers

FaeMoon ( ) posted Sat, 14 April 2012 at 10:53 AM · edited Sun, 28 April 2024 at 11:54 AM

So, I built a renderbox so I could improve my workflow.  I figured I'd be able to render on one machine and use the other to fiddle with morphing characters, previewing skins and not have to deal with the hassle of rendering in background.  pp2012 on both machines.  Legally mine.

So today, while rendering a scene on the new machine, I was working on a morph and texture for Antonia.  Everything is going swimmingly.  Then suddenly I get a pop up saying 'Serial Number already being used.'  and then the morph I was working on closed.  When I try to reopen Poser on my old machine, I get the message again, no boxes or anything to revalidate the copy with my info.

Has anyone encountered this before?  Am I correct that I can't use my copy on both computers?  This is so annoying.

I know I can render in background and work on other projects, but I love to stop my renders and tweak stuff occasionally, and this way I have to stop and reload the scene.. save it and background render again.  ugh..

Smith Micro apparently isn't open on Sundays, nor is their chat.. only during normal business hours when I work too.

The EULA says one computer at a time, and if they are on a network it does check for multi use.  However, since you mention that you can render in the background, you should be able to set one up to render using the quemanager and work on the other.  That is allowed.

Oh, I see.  Okay then.

So queumanager it is.  I guess this will break me of stopping things midrender to tweak.  Kinda sad about that.

Thanks for the response.  :)

Or take one computer offline.

Has possibilities.. could always disable the network, I suppose and use a thumbdrive if I want to move files around.  I wonder if firewalling Poser from the network/internet would work too from one?

I wouldn't recommend firewalling, it might impact on the Poser library if you shut down too many protocols.  Shutting down the internet at the network level should suffice.

If i remember correctly, it is possible to purchase licences from SM that would be significantly less than a new copy would cost.

Monterey/Mint21.x/Win10 - Blender3.x - PP11.3(cm) - Musescore3.6.2

Oh, I will definitely check this out.  It would be the most convenient solution.  I just don't want to have to buy a whole new copy when I'm just me.. no other users.

This should be a good place to get you started:
