The only thing that opens C4D files is Cinema 4D (basically). There are applications like Deep Explorer that will but, as with Max files, they are only supported if you have the version of Cinema 4D installed already. Their native file format (like Maya, 3DSMax, and many others) is binary, proprietary, closed, and constantly changing. You will not find ANY utility that will open these files without having the native application installed.
That said, your best bet would be to find someone with the proper version of Cinema 4D willing to convert into a relevant format such as Wavefront OBJ, FBX, Collada, etc.
C makes it easy to shoot yourself in the
foot. C++ makes it harder, but when you do, you blow your whole leg
off.

Thats not realy correct anymore, for some time now Maxon offers the Melange SDK to 3rd party developers. This allows them to load and save native CINEMA 4D files without having to have CINEMA 4D itself installed.

Hi...
I frequently purchase 3D World and 3D Artist mags. They ofen include free models in the Cinema4D format. I have an older version of Cinema 4D (ver 6) which was given away on magazine cover dics. However this version will not open these models so I'm assuming they are in the format of a newer version of Cinema...
Since I frequently have this problem installing a demo of Cinema that expires in 30 days is not an option...
Are there any free utilities on the web? I've tried Meshlab 1.3 but apparently it doesn't open C4D objects...
Any ideas?
Thanks kindly...
Ken
