Good Day to You. I have discovered some Negatives that have been lost for 33 Years...and...upon Photographing one in the Macro Mode....then "converting" it in PotatoShop...to "invert"....I have Processed My Own Negative. However....all the Negatives are Fungi Infected, and I inquire if anyone knows a "household remedy" to Clean Negatives? I think the Photo shown, may have been Windsor in the UK. Cheers, Tedz :]

What a fun find, a thrilling discovery! I kind of like the effect, but know you probably want slightly better quality. :) There was a tutorial over at Steves Digicams, but the site is being revamped right now so it is not available. Here is the link for when it does come back online though: http://www.stevesforums.com/forums/view_topic.php?id=56753&forum_id=45 I seem to recall and old thread on a similar topic, but don't remember the particulars. There is probably a solution you can buy that will kill the fungus. Hopefully someone else can give you a better answer, good luck!

Thank You Kort. I have found a remedy which uses Methylated Spirit... unfortunately, I have drunk My last Bottle. Also...I would ask....does anyone know a simple way to View Negatives? The one shown...was placed on a White piece of Paper....then stuck to the Bathroom Studio Window, to View and Photograph.

Ahhh, I am glad you found the solution, but sad to hear you drank it as well. I'm sure more can be found. =]

As for viewing negatives...aside from purchasing a negative scanner, your way is probably as easy as any other. You could also press them under clean glass on a light table.

Brian, my negative cleaner is behind a wall somewhere...when I get too negative I simply sit in bleach for a day and shine in the sun. Sure, this blows out the highlights of any local digital sneaky shooter(I can't spell papparatzi). All this aside, I have wetted and rinsed and dried. Never tried to process the results. To view, place hanging neatly below the upper edge of a tube flourescent lamp and use a slight magnifier. Good day.

I have been wondering how to do this conversion w/o a special scanner. I never thought to take a picture of the negative. Cool post and pics :-)

Pascale...I get an old damaged Negative...clean it with Methylated Spirits, on Cotton Wool...same as for removing My Make Up. This Negative....about 33 Years Old. Then...I place it on White Paper....stuck on....then I stick that White Paper on the Window....then shoot the Negative....in Macro Mode....then into PotatoShop....then "invert"... which usually turns Your Pic into a Negative....this is just a reversal... and cheaper doing Your own...I am very frugal. I also removed the Color...as it was so badly damaged....but...it is still preserved...in a way. The Castle is Asford Castle....near the Village of Cong, in Ireland. Thank You for having Faith in Me ....Crew ...*blush* *salute*

Works very well Tedz - innovative and simple - brilliant idea :)

And every one said, 'If we only live,
We too will go to sea in a Sieve,---
To the hills of the Chankly Bore!'
Far and few, far and few, Are the lands where the Jumblies live;
Their heads are green, and their hands are blue, And they went to sea in a Sieve.

Very cool Tedz! Glad to see that you found a way to clean them! I have a slide viewer that allows one to view negatives as well as slides, was very inexpensive, I am sure you could find something along this line in a camera shop where you might buy your other supplies. Can't wait to see more! Brenda :)

I am enjoying the trip down your Memory Lane. An innovative method of garnering images from negatives in this digital age. The grainy effect adds a lot of character.
