No, it is not just about Renderosity, it is more of a general problem.

I see a growing trend in the web business to milk the hobby consumer base. Heck, for a time I even supported this by buying from several Poser shops, but lately it is just to much. On one side we have to pay for former free services, on the other side everything becomes more regulated and less fun. Often this is disguised as a alleged necessity to cater to a more professional audience.

Well for me its is not about the money, but if the fun is gone, then everything else is pointless.

One thing is especially aggravating for me:
Sometimes the PTB of a website react to problems not at all, sometimes in such a heavy-handed way, that it just gets worse. There is no pattern, no possibility to predict the outcome.

That is not the way to run a professional website for a professional audience.

I don't see the relevance of your link.

There is relevance to the link. Movable Type, software that many many people use to power their blogs/journals/photo logs/what have you, has always been free for personal use, with certain not-too-terribly-restrictive usage points. Now, however, it appears that, by going into the realm of a paid product, while they are still offering the base product for free, the usage restrictions have been tightened so radically and ludicrously that the average hobbyist or user-for-fun is left out in the cold, and his/her group or multiple blog left with either keeping the current version of MT that they have, or shelling out quite large sums of money for a license.
There is a rather insidious correlation...it's unfortunate.
