Poser Technical F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 May 19 10:46 am)
Welcome to the Poser Technical Forum.
Where computer nerds can Pull out their slide rules and not get laughed at. Pocket protectors are not required. ;-)
This is the place you come to ask questions and share new ideas about using the internal file structure of Poser to push the program past it's normal limits.
New users are encouraged to read the FAQ sections here and on the Poser forum before asking questions.
You need to add an alpha channel to the PNG. I don't know why they even open in the first place, but replacing the files does not work.
If you have Paint Shop Pro it is simple, Photoshop should also be able to do it but I am not as familiar.
1.Open the thumb in PSP
2.In the layers tab, promote to layer
3.click your eraser tool, edit the size to smallest
4.put your cursor over an inconspicuous part(I choose a corner of the thumb) and erase one pixal
As long as you promoted the thumb to a layer, you have just added alpha data to your PNG.
5.click file, save
If you do this while Poser is open, you will have to reopen the library to see your changes.
The whole process takes about 20 seconds once you get the hang of it. I have never had a reoccurance.

Thanks!
I appreciate the answer to my question.
Odd sort of problem, this. Must be a quirk in the Poser software. I'll work it with your solution.
Thank you again.

Does anyone know of an answer to this problem? (I hope that I can make this as clear as mud):
I have installed some character faces into my Poser 5 face (expressions) folder. The character faces were accompanied by some standard .png format files for menu images.
Upon first installation, the menu .png images worked fine - no problems. The .png images appeared in the Poser menu boxes, as they are supposed to do.
However, when I re-started Poser 5 at a later time, the .png images failed to load. The menu boxes came up blank - with no .png images in them.
Please note that this problem has only occured with one set of character faces/expressions. All of my other menus are working fine - with the .png images appearing properly.
I have attempted to fix the problem by re-saving the .png files as smaller files. It didn't work. I have also re-installed the character .fc2 files + .png files from the original .zip, overwriting the files on my hard drive. That didn't work, either.
My system has plenty of memory, so I don't think that memory is the source of the problem (1G RAM and 29G free hard drive space).
I would greatly appreciate any help or advice. Thanks in advance.
