Yes, organic texture, I think. Actually, I was going to make a post on the subject of "improving a scene." It seems like each time I get something that looks promising, if I keep "messing" with it, it loses what I thought looked good (overall) to begin with. This seems to be the trend with, me anyway. Maybe it's that dividing line where intuition gets the scene started and then "tinkering" (trying to finesse) messes it up.

Read my post in the Bryce forum before installing D/S 9.25 http://www.renderosity.com/messages.ez?ForumID=107&Form.ShowMessage=2323805
Thread: DAZ STudio 9.25 and Bryce 5.5 | Forum: Bryce
They sure should. They made the decision to "marry" Bryce55 to D/S, so now they have to do all the work of maintaining two separate but linked programs. Plus it would be so easy. Just one old computer at DAZ and try the updates you are planning to send to the "masses." And this error is so easy to find. Install D/S 9.25 and then try launching Bryce55. This is one aspect of "linking" of D/S and Bryce55, that adds another layer of potential problems for the DAZ development team. On one hand, Bryce55 is supposedly a stable release, but D/S is still "beta". So changes to D/S could effect Bryce55 and vice versa. This shouldn't be a problem for Bryce user's with versions before 5.5.

I was able to fix my Bryce on my notebook by replacing these files in my system32 (windows) directory: daz-qt-mt.dll dzcore.dll daz-qsa.dll These were from version 9.23.1 of D/S. I suspect a reinstall of Bryce would work too.
Thread: DAZ STudio 9.25 and Bryce 5.5 | Forum: Bryce
This is the thread that describes the problem: http://forum.daz3d.com/viewtopic.php?t=21533 Uninstalling DAZ Studio 9.25 does not fix the problem.
Thread: An almost bryce related question. | Forum: Bryce
I've gotten into the habit of installing (winXP) applications to my C drive and data, program updates (or service packs), program information, images, and project files on my D drive. I've also found that using the default install paths usually makes life easier later on when updates are installed. It makes for a large "Program Files" directory, but by creating a few desktop folders such as "Graphics" and "Utilities" and creating shortcuts in those folders to the applications is a way to keep organized. My data drive (D) looks something like this: d:datagraphics ...Bryce55 ...updates ...info ...scenes ...in_work ...ready_to_render ...done ...content ...materials ...objects ...skies ...Poser6 ...updates ... and so on ...DAZ_Studio ...updates Anyway, there's many ways to organize, and the key word is "organize." By keeping your data separate, you can install a new operating system on C and after installing your applications, grab the patches and updates from the "data drive".

ockham, Yes, I complained to them about that default python editor problem too. I like use SlickEdit and it sure doesn't seem like a difficult fix to launch an exe from within Poser.
Thread: Boolean Operations Question | Forum: Bryce
What got me started on this was a question in another forum about "bending trees." I thought, well, I'll use a segment of a torus and size it to a tree trunk and use the same material (as the trunk). Chop off the lower part of the tree and boolean add the torus and the tree could be fit to the side of a hill or mountain. Most programs either "gray out" or remove items from menus when they aren't available. Bryce does it both ways (look at the general camera attributes and then the general tree attributes.) This isn't a big deal to someone who uses the program a lot, but for a newbie or one who uses it occasionally, it can be frustrating. And being a programmer, I know it is not hard to disable properties of objects that said properties don't apply to. I really thought that DAZ would clean up the code some on their initial attempt. Anyway, enough said about the subject and thanks for the input.
Thread: Boolean Operations Question | Forum: Bryce
So why are the object attribute selections available? I guess it's just another piece of code that hasn't been fixed. I guess I'm expecting too much that a product as old as Bryce is to have so many inconsistencies (if you click on the "A" of a camera, the attributes available are totally different from say a tree or cube.) How hard would it be for the DAZ programmers to modify the code for metaball objects to "grey out" the boolean attributes? Maybe I'm being too critical.

Thread: OT, but HAVE to vent about some LOUSY Parents! | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I don't know if this would have worked, but I would have gotten the license plate number and called the police. Leaving a child sick is like leaving a child unattended in a car. And it's a form of child abuse. Maybe the clerk knows who they were (maybe they are regular customers).
Thread: Ungrouping a model & then realigning | Forum: Bryce
Import the model first. Set the family color by click on the "color icon" under the "A" for the object properties. Select a color that you can remember (don't used the solid blue -- it's the camera and grouping the camera with your model will be a problem.). Click on the "A" and give it a object name. Now, un-group your model. Use the TAB key to cycle through the different meshes and set the desired materials. When finished, select either your object name or the family color and re-group the model. If you want, add the model to the object library. You can work several models this way and then add them to your scene later.
Thread: WNP (Work Not Progressing).. help needed..:-) | Forum: Bryce
One easy way is to click on Sky and Fog at the top of the screen and then in the fourth box from the left (haze), click once and hold down the mouse button and select a new color (something that matches your sky colors.) Or, click and hold down the mouse button in the sky haze thumbnail and move the mouse to the left. This will decrease the haze value. You can also go to the sky lab and make these adjustments there.
Thread: Another Bryce Bug? | Forum: Bryce
Maybe I'm missing something, but what I do when I interrupt a render I want to continue (from that point) I save the br5 file first. Then jump over to D/S or go check something in the Bryce material editor. Before clicking "resume render" do a file|open (don't save), choose the file you saved earlier, and resume should pick up where it left off (before the save.)
Thread: what do you think of Bryce 5.5? | Forum: Bryce
I haven't timed it yet, but it seems to load and save br5 scenes faster, and processes (load) obj files quicker than version 5. This (to me) is more important than the render times -- I can sleep while the final renders are performed.
