Thread: 17 Amazing Wide Angle Images | Forum: Photography
My 10 -20 Sigma needs to get out more, she spends too much time at the pC, I dare not take her flying because she is far to keen looking at bits of the aircraft when i point her outside. But she wants to go to town next time i am out shopping and she has promised to try not to make all the buildings look like they are falling on top of me.
Thread: How would you crop this pic? | Forum: Photography
A fascinating thread, thanks for making me think,I cant come up with anything new on this however !

Thanks Meowgli for looking at my site. Yes I agree its not perfect, but I have a good deal with the designer webmaster and my budget is limited as a one man band.
An auto system would loose me some contact with the enquiries and you are right, I do have to vary the cost according to use,I prefer to do that off the website.
Very pleased that you have had stock accepted, its not easy.

Thread: Stock Photography | Forum: Photography
thanks Meogwli, taking the photos is at times the easy part,it is the promotional work which is challenging and I agree , its getting the pics in front of people which takes knowledge of web promotion.
I still fell it is worth looking at having your own site.
Thread: Stock Photography | Forum: Photography
I get direct contact with potential new clients, and I do have a search gallery option. It has taken a while to put my pictures on my site but I dont have to jump thru someone elses hoops. I have looked at placing my work on stock sites but i just find that many have requirements which I find to much trouble. Yes my approach is a bit laid back but having to face getting pics rejected for a variety of reasons is just too damaging to my eggshell of confidence. My work is judged by myself as Good Enough and certainly I strive to improve ,however I would descend into despair if I allowed my pictures to be nit picked by an unknown picture agency screener.
Drop in to my site and have a browse www.scotaviaimages.co.uk
Unlike most agencies I show many views of the same subject from different angles.

My view is that you are better off having your own website and selling stock direct, you get just what you want and no middleman.
Thread: The Technology Monster... | Forum: Photography
Blimey, you have made me feel even better about my self taught melodeon accordian playing. I am always live never miming !!!One of my sons recorded me and made me do about 20 takes..aaaargh.
The two big advantages of digital..instant feedback to check result on the wee screen and an ability to change ISO settings which is also connected to the low light ability . I used to have to carry 3 types of film and be prepared for an inflight film change.
Its been win and loose regarding the ability to home process at the pc, win..a darkroom without the dark and chemicals, lower processing cost(perhaps not if I really record the time i take)........loose, need a constant back up and storage place.
And the ability to take more pics is useful as a cost saving against film purchase.
Thread: The Technology Monster... | Forum: Photography
Despite having two digital cameras in use I still find that I look before I shoot , perhaps if I had started with the ability to shoot hundreds of images instead of thinking about my rolls of film I would just fire away. On my flights I have to remind myself to shoot more not less !!
The big advantage is when the subject is moving or wildlife when you never know what happens next. Then you can look for the best later.
The resolution battle is I think reaching the limits of what is practical. In certain specialised fields very very high MP counts may be needed but i am happy with my 10 meg Canon and if needed I can winch up the Mamiya medium (although its not as flexible as my digi cams)
Thread: Dusk shuttle launch pic link | Forum: Photography
Thanks for posting that view, I would like to see a Shuttle launch. I suppose I have been lucky to see a few Bloodhound guided missiles fired, however we were in a bunker and really only saw a lot of smoke and heard a loud noise.
Thread: Small milestone for me | Forum: Photography
Oh thats a funny milestone. I have thought when carrying around two cameras on neckstraps and holding gadget bag and tripod that i have a small millstone .
Thread: Caravaggio. Was he a cheat? | Forum: Photography
There is only one form of cheating in art and that is the copying of anothers work and that is called forgery. Everything else is fair game and for years I have realised that many photo realistic paintings are copies of a photo projected onto the canvas and sketched then painted.
Thread: March 2009 - Photography Forum Challenge - Frame Within A Frame | Forum: Photography
thanks to those who mentioned this months challenge and connected one of my recent posts. This is the second time I have accidentally predicted the subject !!
Thread: Informal Poll, "your gallery" | Forum: Photography
I do not keep a diary so when I look back in my gallery I have a wowee reminder of the people and places caught forever.
