Subject: Getting an error...

ominousplay ( ) posted Sun, 17 February 2008 at 10:49 PM · edited Tue, 14 July 2026 at 11:09 AM

I've never had to deal with may bugs or errors with Carrara, but now I'm getting one: After trying to load models through the browser, and texture maps through the texture room, I'm receiving : nil pointer error occurred What can I do to get around this? Thank you

Okay, I did it again when trying to bring in a poser file - it seems to be related to the fox or rabbit figure, but the two models and related textures have worked in the past.

I've had similar issues but have rebooted the program, or on a more persistent presentation of the error, rebooted my entire machine.  Nil Pointer errors, as I understand (and I may be completely in error here), are caused by memory allocation issues in which the software is freeing up memory because it thinks it's done with it, but then it turns out to need.

Maybe a reboot will help?

I zapped the pram and rebooted - same error. There is the error I get when trying to load a fox from Lynn's Vista Internet site... and now I just check and rats! She is no longer selling her models. I should have picked up the lynx when I had a chance. I really liked that model. Does anyone know where I could find it sold somewhere else? Anyway, back to the error. I looked at permissions and all seem fine. I tried renaming the files, something shorter, checked the extensions, and same error. Here is a capture of the error I'm getting trying to load from browser: Thanks for any help. It just seems to be failing, so far, with her models...

And it only seems to be giving the error in C6Pro and not C5Pro. I was able to load a poser file containing the fox with text map using Transposer in C5Pro and all worked fine, but trying the same using C6Pro is giving the nil pointer error above. Is this something I should report? Does anyone else have Lynn's rabbits or fox pack?

I have Lynes foxes & rabbits.  Both loaded without incident.  I used the red fox(which came in with textures) and the Dutch rabbit(came in w/out textures- had to find them).

But no errors.  If there is a specific breed you would like to test let mw know :)

Well shoot.  What do I do from here?  My models don't load without error.  Maybe I need to reload Carrara.
I'll wait for a few days... for any ideas that might help.

If this is what you are trying, I seem to not have a problem?

Ominousplay - let me know what breed of the rabbit or fox you are using.  It could be "breed" specific.  The reason I ask is that her stuff was made back in the Poser4 days & not all of her stuff had paths(textures) & some were bums which possibly could be an issue here. I myself have not tried all the breeds just the ones I previously mentioned.

ominousplay ( ) posted Tue, 19 February 2008 at 10:29 AM

I'm trying the red fox adult - but it could be that it can't find the .obj for the old wolf.  It looks like bwtr is using the new wolf body... I'm going to try and reload the original files.

Has anyone seen her stuff for sale anywhere else?  I missed picking up the lynx - what a perfect looking texture... I regret not getting that one.

I'm afraid her stuff is not available anywhere else & it won't be.  Lyne is not in good health, therefore the closing of her store.

I bet your assessment is correct about the the old wolf.

Thank you, sorry to hear about her health.  Her models were always a inspirational to look at - I bought her fox set and rabbit set, and always had my eyes on the ducks and lynx.  Take care -

Okay, I did find something interesting.  For some reason the runtime files for the fox and other models were put into Poser4 - since I've been putting files in Poser4 for a very long time, and Carrara6 just didn't like pulling from Poser4 for these particular models... When I moved the files for the problem models over to Poser6 Runtime, everything work.  Go figure.  Hope this helps anyone else who runs into this prob.
