Subject: Adding SSS to a skin shader for V4.1?

wikman ( ) posted Thu, 20 December 2007 at 1:24 PM · edited Wed, 15 July 2026 at 11:42 PM

I have a couple of different "skins" for Victoria 4.1, and would like to see how they look with SSS (Sub Surface Scattering) applied. The theory is that this will make the skin more lifelike, right? Do I need to add SSS to each shader domain, or is there a way that I can apply the same SSS settings to all parts of V4.1's body just adjusting one shader? (I feel I don't really have a grasp of the right language for what I am trying to describe, so please let me know if I'm not making any sense!)

What I'll usually do is create a master skin shader with SSS. Then, in the shader editor, instead of the default linking to the same texture map over and over again, I'll simply link to the new reference shader. To answer your question directly, yes. You have to do it for each domain. However, the shortcut above is a way to prevent reapplying the same edit over and over. Mark

Here is where my grasp of the program and of the proper terminology comes up short. I think I understand something of what you are saying, but I can't quite picture how I could go about accomplishing this. Could you explain in more detail, and perhaps show me a few screenshots of the process? I would be forever indebted to you if you could help me with this one!
