Subject: Is there any way to save characters other than .CAR

jjroland ( ) posted Wed, 03 October 2007 at 10:04 AM · edited Fri, 24 July 2026 at 7:20 AM

Well I asked a question similar to this recently - the answer was basically shell out the 100$ for the upgrade.  I can't right now so that suggestion will not be helpful - though I do appreciate the knowledge that C6 is super duper.

Perhaps I had worded my question badly - most likely.

I have Apollo and V4.  I would like to create Characters with them that will be used over and over again inside Carrara.  I do not want to open Poser anymore.  If I import the cr2 and save it to the browser I get what looks like a skeleton in the scene - but no Apollo.

How can I do this so that I can create the characters ONE time and use them over again many times in different combinations - inside Carrara ONLY?

Please help.
Thank you

I'm pretty sure you can open multiple scenes in Carrara Std. you should be able to copy a figure from your "safe" saved version and paste it into the new scene....

Nope - wouldn't let me copy the .cr2 version, though I think I have found a work around that does involve .car.  I export him as a .car, then can reimport him into the scene the same way.  When I do this I keep all the body dials and what not.

Of course handling the shaders for him was a whole 'nother ball of fun.  But it looks like if I do it this way his shaders will import with him each time too (whooo hooo).  Now to see if I can simply save the .car version to the browser.

~edit~
that didn't work either LOL.  Apparently there will be no adding anything to the browser other than carrara created objects.  Nice.....
However exporting the character as a simple .car is an easy enough work around.  It appears I can morph him as I want and that will import back just fine as well.  Then still be able to pose him how I want once I do that.

Moving him is another story.  Carrara doesn't want to allow me to use the arrows to move him once I complete the process this way.  I have to enter the digits if I want him to move at all.  That is a pita but one I can tolerate I guess.  If anyone knows how to "unlock" his arrows - I'd love to know.

I saved V4 as a .Car, but once I brough her in I couldnt use any of the inj morphs on her.  I could pose her though....hope DAZ is listening.

Thanks,
Philip

when I tried saving miki and apollo to the objects browser, the morphs were lost, hence they reverted to default figures when opening from objects browser. the inj morphs work for aiko3 and v3 (at least in c6pro OS X). daz may be able to supply a detailed tutorial on how to inject morphs into V4 in c6pro, which ISTR differs from previous figures.

Thanks Miss Nancy, thought I was going crazy or somethin

I found the same problem with custom morphs. My workaround was:
load your figure in Poser
Apply NO textures
Inject the morphs in poser
Save the file as a poser scene
When i opened the scene in Carrara all the morphs were there.

You may be aware of this but here is a render tip: 1) Set your render size 2) If you want to have a transparent background to composite with save as a Targa with the alpha selected. 3) Setting your render size allows you to set your production frame properly. cheerio  lululee

When you go back in the assembly room, Edit, show production frame Set your magnifying to 75% and you can see precisely what you are rendering. cheerio  lululee
