Subject: Import problems

wolfmanjim ( ) posted Thu, 06 September 2007 at 10:34 AM · edited Thu, 30 July 2026 at 1:17 AM

I just gor Carrara 6 standard and now I am trying to import my PZ3s(from Poser 7) into it.  But literally nothing appears.  What am I doing wrong.  I thought Transposer ws not needed.

BAR-CODE ( ) posted Thu, 06 September 2007 at 10:40 AM

C6 and P7 DONT work good together importing a pz3 etc etc is a hit n mis
P6 works perfect with TS2 etc etc ...

Poser 7 is not realy compatible ... that was stated before C6 came out..
That has to do with "SDK" and a non working between E-frontier and DAZ..

So try to do your best .. there is AFAIK  NO 100% good way for C6 and P7 to work together...

Delete the lights in Poser before you save as PZ3.  This has worked for me.

BAR-CODE ( ) posted Thu, 06 September 2007 at 10:47 AM

Yeah i know about that but its still a Hit or mis with C6/P7
and bigger scene's do lose a lot of textures etc etc...
Like i said P7 import is a try and error in Car6..

the only pz3 files from P7 that I've been able to import to c6pro contained poser primitives and/or p4woman. I left the lights in. c6pro failed to import miki.pz3, sydney.pz3 and jessi.pz3, even though I deleted the lights. all that came in was the skullcap.

Daz pretty much want you to drop Poser. They keep telling everyone not to use poser and Pz3's and use the native import instead. They have slowly made it harder for poser users to use thier products. This will only be the beginning. Daz and eF are drawing a line and your going to have to choose which side your on. Which is a real shame.

MIss Nancy - are those figures uncompressed?  Not that this is any consulation - but I got Syndey in as a Cr2 & PZ3 from 7 I just unticked the animation box.

dlk, they're pz3 files based on crz and obz files. c6pro will open cr2 files in my case. however, I don't see any way to add cr2 files to the figures folder in c6pro, nor any way to add pz2 files to the pose folder in c6pro.

Actually don't blame DAZ, it's e-frontier that started the war in the first place.  DAZ tried to get the SDK from e-frontier for Poser 7 compatibility with Carrara 5 and they refused.

In the old days, pre Poser 5 DAZ and Curious Labs were friends.  After Poser 5 rediculous EULA and attempts at product activation, Content Paradise was launched and they tried to steer Poser users away from Daz figures.  Apparently they resented the fact that Daz was developing Daz Studio.  Although other will disagree with me, I really don't think any of the native Poser people are as well made or versatile as the Daz Mil. Figures.

If you import your runtime Libraries into your content tab you can drop and drag your Poser figures right in Carrara--that seems to work better than importing them by PZ3.   Why not just compose your scene right from the beginning in Carrara?  You can pose, morph, animate--it saves you an extra step!

dlk30341 ( ) posted Fri, 07 September 2007 at 11:40 AM

Tomsde is correct just drag your CR2 down into the proper place under the content tab.....

Miss Nancy - I would highly recommend you uncompress all your Poser items.  I would bet this is half the problems people are having that they are using the compressed version which are unsupported.  Just because PZ3 is supported doesn't mean whats inside it is.

Miss Nancy ( ) posted Fri, 07 September 2007 at 12:25 PM

the progress bars across the top of c6pro show the obz files and indicate that carrara recognises them and is trying to load them, but the resulting scene is empty. in some cases, when I open a pz3 file in poser 7 and save it as cr2, c6pro can't open the cr2 file, either. not much luck with poser 4 scene files. c6pro tries to load those, but just stalls, with the progress bar at the top saying "poserfile.pz3", a solid yellow bar, and 100% at the right of the bar. however, it's worth a try decompressing everything.

I'd give it a whirl - I'm betting it yields better results.

If you already know this then ignore it ;)

crz = cr2
obz  = obj

I uncompressed mine & then deleted the compressed ones.

When importing Sydney as a cr2 it took about 3-4m for it to load - importing PZ3 took longer - it sat at 98.3 for about 5 min before completing the import process.  Maybe it was longer as I smoked a whole cig & went to b/r before it was done LOL

Dragging up from the browser made no difference time wise.

I have used TY2 and miki 2 and G2 males without any problem .. from P6 to C6ts2..

I noticed that Carrara had some problem finding things like Daz Studio does, that is annoying, but when I pressed cancel on one item I was importing it asked me to designate the runtime path--apparently it was trying to find the stuff in the Poser 7 main runtime.   I had created a shortcut from my Poser library  file and placed it in P7's folder, that seemed to help with C5, but it doesn't seem to be helping in this case.

Miss Nancy ( ) posted Fri, 07 September 2007 at 2:25 PM

poser5 pz3 files import o.k. for me with transposer 2, which doesn't recognise poser7.app (OS X). transposer 2 was able to import a poser7 pz3 file of the p4woman with lites, but it failed to import the props' positions, the lites' positions, the pose, etc.

Tomsde ( ) posted Fri, 07 September 2007 at 2:32 PM

I don't know why Poser lights don't translate over now when they used to in the past, but even when they did they looked different in Carrara than Poser.  One is better off setting up your own light sets in Carrara I suppose for more consistency.

I just bought C6 pro and tried to import a simple pz3 file into it from Poser 6.  Everything showed up there (Victoria, hair and clothes) but nothing was attached to Vicki anymore.  It was all there in the standard position as if it had never been attached to the figure and then doesn't move with her.  I realize Im a newbie at carrera, but is there something basic that I'm doing wrong?
