Subject: Selection with Left Mouse Button and ALT-LMB...

DoomsdayRenderer ( ) posted Wed, 06 June 2007 at 3:20 PM · edited Sat, 21 February 2026 at 12:16 AM

I know Blender veterans probably kill me for asking this but...

I can live with Blender's selection with right mouse button scheme. But if I change modelers (as I need to do) or just do something else in some other app, I lose the concentartion and then it takes time to get used to making selections with right mouse button.

I KNOW that it can be changed. But if I change selection to left mouse button, then I can rotate with ALT-LMB or pan with SHIFT-ALT-LMB. These are also the settings I'm used to in Blender AND in other apps.

So, the actual question: is it possible to get LMB to select AND ALT-LMB to rotate and SHIFT-ALT_LMB to pan? It seems I can get one but not both.

There are so many things where Blender is so flexible I just wonder if someone has solved this...

Only solution for your problem that I see is this: Go to store and buy some mouse with a weel :)
Mouse wheel acts as the middle mouse button (MMB) when pressed, so:

    1. - To rotate 3d view in Blender, press MMB and drag.
    2. - To pan, press SHIFT+MMB and drag.
2.1 - To pan 3d view on screen X press CTRL and rotate mouse wheel
2.2 - To pan 3d view on screen Y press SHIFT and rotate mouse wheel
    3. To zoom, just rotate mouse wheel or press CTRL+MMB and drag.

damir_prebeg, I'll try. I really want to feel comfortable in Blender because the more I use it, the more I am impressed by it. But I have some key combos so deeply learned that even minor changes are problems. But I promise to keep trying.

(Yes, I DO have wheel mouse...)
