Subject: Couple of more questions :) ....

First nothing now 2 posts in one week I feel like I am spamming :).

Anyway I have what might be a couple of silly questions that I havent been able to find the answers to.

  1. If I was to use either Aerusouls tut or Face-off's script to add skin shading in poser do they or would they get imported to carrara thruogh native or transposer?(or am I better off learning to do it in carrara?)

  2. While I have figured out that doing a setup in P7 and opening and resaving in P6 doesn't play nice in carrara btween the absolute paths and the combo of ":"(prefered) and ""(not so good) after fixing a pz3 the file took a very long time to open so the question is which is better absolute file paths or reletive ones?

Thanks again in advance for reading my craptacular typing :)

No, carrara does not import the shaders of poser. I use vue when I need to do that. You will need to learn todo it in Carrara. I find the carraa materials editor very good.

The paths, something I have never had a problem with so I can't give an answer.

When importing a Poser item into Carrara the shaders come with it. As you would expect.

correction, it tries to bring shaders with it :) but carrara simply doesnt have the same tools to make the shader identical, and its still better to recreate shaders from scratch in carrara to get the right effect that you are going for

if i plan to render in carrara,i would never do shaders until models are in carrara

if you want face-off skin shader, i made a thread showing the literal translation of the shader a year ago, but its not the best design to use in carrara. i would look up the other threads for realistic skin, one was by....shonnon or forgot how to spell the name, it was made in carrara and IMO looks better

Here is a typical example of Poser shaders importing into Carrara.

As an information add on. The shaders from Poser5 import very well, however, some of the Poser6 shadersdo not render as accurately when in Carrara.  I suggest that it is only those few occsasional shaders that may require rehashing in Carrara.

If anyone can grab a cheap version of Poser5 they should do it now, It is by far the most compatable with Carrara in relation to that HUGE backlog of stuff free/paidfor that is available here and elsewhere.

Many thanks on the shader question guys I just didnt want to waste my time in poser if I didnt have to.
BTW read over Shonner's skin shading tutorial and I think I am gonna give it a try import the same figure 2 times and use the standard tex on one and shonner's info on the other see how it works out :)
I will post a render once I get to it over the weekend. I swear though Carrara has me like a fat kid in a candy store atm cant get enough of using it :)
