Subject: A new plug-in from DCG, Enhance:C

ewinemiller ( ) posted Sat, 13 May 2006 at 8:02 PM · edited Wed, 29 July 2026 at 5:08 AM

Hi folks,

Today we introduce our newest plug-in Enhance:C.

The Enhance:C plug-in puts hundreds of new shaders at your fingertips. Over 200 new shader functions for Carrara make Enhance:C a must have plug-in for the procedural shader fan.

You can check out Enhance:C at

http://www.digitalcarversguild.com/plugin.php?ProductId=18

or download and try out Enhance:C from the links below

Very nice!

Looks like it adds some terrific shader options! Thanks Eric.

Hi folks,

Please download again if you've already grabbed it. I uploaded the wrong package. The new one will fix a number of bugs and has the included sample shaders.

I like the ability to calculate your own bumps - like a bevel effect to the bump? That's what it looks like from the site. Nice.

Never Give Up!

Hi Everybody, If you'll indulge my gushing, this is the absolute best shader set/toos I've seen for Carrara. Many of the shaders can be keyframed over time to create some astonishing animation effects. Enhance C let's me create effects I could only do with texture maps before. Worthy.

images with these shaders please?

Im very much a dcg advocate (ive got tons of addons from dcg) , but cant REALLY tell what I'm getting in the package from the images.

would love some "real" examples in real renders instead of just on spheres.

tnx

Eric a packet of money is burning a hole in my pocket BUT!---

The trial shaders do not seem to be acting as required--all sorts of dropdowns etc saying no or naughty? (Trial renders don't emulate the shader!)

I know I am one of the dumb ones, but it seems that a lot of DETAILED information (Tutes?) is required to enable me to use each of the functions. How,where, why etc.

Any help and advice is welcome and sorry if it's just me having one of my "days"!

bwtr,

I'm confused by your post. Are you getting errors?

The trial version should run for a short time and then after that, all functions will just start returning black. Restarting Carrara will reset the time.

More sample shaders and some tutorials are under construction.

Hi BryceTech, Here is a real quickie. These are really flexible shaders. For example on the "rivet" shader I can adjust number of rivets, size of rivet, placement, regularity of the panels, size of of gap etc., all with sliders. Likewise for the wood floor, grain, panels, blending etc. At the link you'll find a couple of other shader effects that were extremely fast to create. Mark

Here is another little example from a larger image. I used Enhance:C here for the subtle ribbing effect onthe tanks, the texture on the rooves, ground elements and the soft grunge noise on the building elements. E:C let's you add noised to many of procedural functions so you can have very organic looks and mixes to procedural elements.

Eric the attached image is typical of most shaders--though on one loading of this Briar Patch it rendered half way down in the preview. I am using Windows XP Pro. Thanks.

It looks like demo mode is running out of time and returning black, so for this one where the shader is in the alpha channel all you end up getting is the green of the color channel.

The time constraint is actually the number of times the plug-in will evaluate a shader. On a complicated shader with lots of Enhance:C's that might burn up pretty quick. The Briar Patch stops working about halfway through a typical preview window, map gets through about 3 refreshes. Quick suggestion is to size your preview window smaller and I'll try to get one out in the next few days that gives a little more time.

I just posted an update that will expand the time on the evaluation mode a bit. You should be able to get through a preview of most of the presets (all but the starship hull in my tests), but depending on the size of your preview window, you might not get through a second.

Well, of course, I HAD to buy. Magnificent!--and more.

Re Tutes. With all these Cruddy Bozos we really do need Lacunarity to help us along our way!!!! Will have to create a new "bible"--the world of Shade according to Eric...can't stop giggling.

The Brickwall Shader has to be "force" dropped?

ewinemiller ( ) posted Tue, 16 May 2006 at 4:56 AM

Yeah looks like there is a bug in Carrara where it looks for just two shaders at the top of the tree. It even gives the same message when you have a built-in top level shader that isn't Layer List or Multichannel. I'll have to report that one to Charles and Co. Just hit OK on the force drop and it should work fine.

I just added Enhance:C to my "arsenal" and I have to say that I've learned a lot about Carrara shader structure in general, and Enhance:C in particular by following the great new tutorial! Thanks Eric. This is actually making the "arcane" art of Carrara shaders a lot of fun!

RogerRoger ( ) posted Fri, 07 July 2006 at 9:48 AM

I just downloaded Enhance:C (and AnythingGoos and AnythingGrooves) - but, oh my god, I can't find them!!!

I really did follow the instructions and can even find the files in the Extensions (Content > MACOS > Extensions) folder... I create an object in Carrera - go to the render room - create a new mutlitple master shader... and, well, nothing... its all the same as it always was!

I'm using Carrera4Pro on a MacG5 with OSX 10.3.9

Help!

Thanks (hopefully) in advance!!!

Hola Roger, You'll be able to see them while in the Shader Room, not the Render Room.

RogerRoger ( ) posted Fri, 07 July 2006 at 10:07 AM

Hi Mark Bremmer

Sorry - Shader room not Render room...

I made a stupid error in typing the message - my menu looks similar to the screen shot you've kindly provided - but it has only the default items...  not 'Anything Goos', notr'EnhanceC'... How you show them is how I expected to find them... BUT alas...

I'm using Carrera 4 and haven't updated to 5 - is this view of the Carrera 5 Shading room palette? I don't recognise 'translucency' or 'subsurface...'.

Thanks for your quick reply - and sorry to have given the wrong information to the forum...

Hi Roger, Carrara 4 would be the issue then. It looks like EnhanceC is for C5 only. :-P

RogerRoger ( ) posted Fri, 07 July 2006 at 10:20 AM

Hi again Mark Bremmer Oh well - that's apity - but, as far as I can tell AnythingGoos is backwards compatible down to version 3 - and I can't find that either.... Look slike I'm going to have to bite the bullet and upgrade. Thanks RogerRoger

Because of structure chages to the Carrara code, there is a plug-in specific to each version of Carrara. Double check that you downloaded the correct one. Grows and Grooves is under the modifier tab in the Assembly Room.

Thanks - will do!
