Description

...this is a small glimpse within a rainforest in the Hoh River Valley on the Olympic Peninsula (Washington state). ...no matter what the weather or time of the day, there is a certain glow eminating from the green, wood rotting fungus covering almost everything in an area like this. ...Foxfire is the term for the bioluminescence created in the right conditions by a few species of fungi that decay wood. The luminescence is often attributed to members of the genus Armillaria, the Honey mushroom, though others are reported, and as many as 71 individual species have been identified. See short wiki here. Bill P.S. Left very large to provide a good zoomed look if you are interested. "Stumped" thumb_2181357.jpg

Splendid lighting and textural effects, suggestive of The Wizard of Oz and Lord of the Rings movies, Bill. Trapped inside, one would never escape its clutches. Foxfire also the name of a 1996 movie starring Angelina Jolie.

Well, this blows my mind, Bill! What a photo! When I first saw this image, the first thing that popped into my mind was Pandora, the planet (moon, actually) where the story takes place in the movie 'Avatar.' It seems even more like Pandora with the bioluminescant fungus and moss. Fascinating! You ought to try to capture the bioluminescance at night - now that would be positively eerie!
