Description

This find took me back to my childhood and was one of the many postwar (WWII) stylish cars that helped turn me into a car nut. Found this 1950 Studebaker on a quiet side street in Jacksonville, Oregon. .................................................................................................. "Perhaps no automaker is more identified with a single design than Studebaker with its 1950-1951 "bullet-nose" cars. The feisty South Bend independent didn't invent the "spinner" front end -- the 1948 Tucker and 1949-1950 Ford used similar themes, as have several European models. Studebaker's styling differed mainly in degree. Ads called it "The Next Look," implying it would start a trend. It didn't, but that mattered little to company executives, who were content to chalk up sales unmatched in Studebaker's previous 48 years of auto production and in any of the next 16."

Neat find, Bill. The car looks to be in good condition, How about a a pic of the sleek (and laughed at in the post war era) body design by Raymond Loewy. Dick

Terrific foto of what I consider a real beauty of an auto, Bill. Love that front spinner. I also have some shots of this go-getter in my files.

It's funny why cars all have 2 lights. maybe because it makes them appear less human thus lessening the emotive connection/sales with humans! I mean I will be honest, if I don't like the look on the face of a car, I will NEVER buy it no matter how efficient or comfortable it is!

A sweet find and a great shot, Bill! I do remember seeing a few of these - a long time ago. That was back when cars had style! You know, in this age of CG, CAD, 3D printing, and advanced manufacturing processes, you'd think the designers could come up with something better than a shoebox with wheels....

I love the strong contrast of this image and the fine capture of the perfectly smooth metalic texture.

It certainly did become an icon! I know a lady who owns one and still drives it and she is around 92 years old.

Love it, Bill! Reminds me of my childhood, too. That jet engine look is unmistakeable. Unfortunately I have no chance of seeing this anymore, being in Sweden. The hood ornament is so nice, perched on top of the jet look-alike. And the small "cannon" located under the headlights. You've captured it all. AND, the so smooth aerodynamic surfaces, too. Not a bump or scratch to be seen! Man, I'd love to have a Studebaker. Great photo, Bill. A very suitable follow up to Hughs Spruce Goose. Keep up the good work.

Great shot, Bill. My very first car was a '50 Stude. Learned to drive a stick shift in it thanks to the endless patience of my father.
