Description
Zam’s Prehistoric World
Narrative:
“Pull that thing right there, yea, that’s it, no, a little further,” Zam was pointing into the machines frame and giving instructions. “No, don’t pull that, bang on that right there, try pulling that over there, no not that, that, the red thing.”
Zan had crawled up on the Terraformers body and had started poking around looking for the Star Crystal energy storage device. He really had no idea what he was doing, but what boy didn’t have, at some point during childhood, the A.I. Action Figure with real laser beam gun. So, he started looking at places his action figures kept their batteries.
“You’re doing it all wrong, pull that little door open right there, bang on it,” Zam continued to coach.
“I thought you were going to take a nap?” Zan snapped. “And it doesn’t make sense for the Star Crystals to be inside that panel.”
“Open it anyway,” Zam replied.
“Fine!” Zan practically shouted, beginning to lose his temper. Zan ripped the panel open that his brother had been pointing at. A red glow poured out of the now opened panel and four red glowing Star Crystals lay in their cradles just inside the panel.
“Told you so,” Zam rubbed it in.
Zan made a grumbling noise and wondered how much trouble he would get in if he gored his brother with one of his horns.
Zam peered over his brother’s shoulder as Zan gently lifted each Star Crystal from it’s cradle. He handed the crystals to Zam who wrapped each one in a bit of fur and tucked them safely in his carrying pouch.
“There are five of those holders. One is missing.” Zam pointed out.
“It probably broke and the machine discarded it.” Zan replied.
“Maybe there is more stuff, lets keep looking.” Zam was already crawling around and through the machines frame.
“I doubt there is anything else interesting to find,” Zan said matter of fact.
“Hey look, here’s another Star Crystal; it’s blue,” Zam triumphed.
Zan’s eyes narrowed and glowed red. ‘How does he do that?’
“Let me see it,” Zan demanded.
Zam handed the Star Crystal over and both boys climbed down from the machine.
Zan sat on a rock staring at the blue crystal for quite some time, then finally said, “I want this one.”
“Why? Asked Zam.
“You have the red ones. I want the blue one,” Zan replied.
Zam pulled the four red ones out and looked at them then shrugged, “Okay, you can have the blue one, but don’t ever tell anyone we have these," said Zam. “Someone will try to take them away from us.”
Zan nodded, “Give me a piece of fur so I can wrap it up.”
“You said my furs have fleas,” Zam grinned.
“Just give me a piece of fur, dinosaur breath,” Zan retorted.
Zan wrapped the blue Star Crystal and tucked it away in a safety pocket under his shirt. Zam put three of his red Star Crystals away and held one firmly in his hand.
“Well, you ready to see if it works?” Zam asked
Zan waved at the Terraformer, “Goodbye T339.”
“Huh? Asked Zam.
“There, on the Terraformer, see the letters etched in the metal. That’s its name.”
Zam looked at the designation and tried to sound out the letters and numbers. Zan rolled his eyes at Zam’s effort to say the designation as a word instead of separate letters and said, “Come on, let’s go.”
Zam turned, placed one hand on his brother and held the red glowing Star Crystal in the air.
Both boys vanished, leaving the rusted remains of T339-DRGN-Terraformer once again alone on the hill.

Boys will indeed be boys, and that's great. The illustration is superb. Well done. Rick

Ah, the love of siblings. I really don't think T339 is "dead". What role will he play?

I bet the blue crystal already started communicating with Zan! As far as a boy not knowing what he's doing it also happens to old men about 50 times a day, in my case anyway LOL! Great art and super story!
