Description

Zam’s Prehistoric World Narrative: “I have to go really bad,” said Zan. Zam didn’t pause, just pointed at a bush. “There might be snakes in there.” Zan said in horror. “There’s not,” replied Zam. “How do you know?” Zan asked suspiciously. “I just used that bush,” Zam replied. “Ewww, that’s just wrong!” Zan hissed and made a face. “Is there anything your not afraid of?” asked Zam. “You’re one to talk. You ran and hid the first time you saw the toilet flush,” Zan said laughing. “It took father an hour to get you to come out.” “I still say that thing is evil and unnatural.” Zam retorted. After a brief stop for Zan to use the bush, the boy’s continued walking toward the spot that would line them up for the planet jump. The Star Crystals had sped their journey up considerably. They were getting close to their last jump. “You said you would tell me how you know where the jump spots are,” Zan stated as he leaped over a log in the path. Zam stopped and looked at his brother, “Okay, I need to get the next spot anyway.” Zan watched as his brother pulled a necklace from inside his shirt. “You cheater!” said Zan. “That’s a micro-transmitter. You said you didn’t like technology. I thought you were doing some kind of magic.” “It is magic,” Zam explained. “This rock tells me where to go.” “It’s not a rock, you dim witted dinosaur toothpick,” Zan shot back. “It’s a highly sophisticated synthetic crystal that uses trans-dimensional technology to send and receive transmissions.” “Exactly,” Zam grinned. “Magic.” Zam held the transmitter up and activated it. “Grandfather, I’m ready for the next jump.” Zam spoke into the transmitter. There was a long pause and then a deep voice came out of the transmitter. “I have you on telemetry,” The voice said. “Look at the Northern sky. You will see a very bright star; there is a small moon half-way to it. Will you be able to find it?” “Yes Grandfather.” Stated Zam. “Good,” said Destroyer, the boy’s grandfather. “That moon does not have an atmosphere. You must activate your personal shields before you jump. Do you understand?” “Yes Grandfather,” Zam spoke into the transmitter. “There will be a D-Class Cruiser to pick you up when you get there.” Destroyer explained and then the transmitter shut off; the connection had been severed. Destroyer was not known for wasted words. Zam tucked the transmitter back into his shirt and looked at his brother. Zan was staring at him in complete shock. “You liar, you fake!” Zan said. “Where did you get a transmitter? Do you have a wrist implant? And how do you know how to use them?” Zam shook his head and lifted his shirt. There was a portal belt shield wrapped around his waist. “Where I got them doesn’t matter,” said Zam. “But seriously brother, did you expect me to stay a dumb cave boy forever? You know father has been teaching me stuff. I can even read simple words.” Zan thought about it and realized. Zam had spent a lot of time with father. Of course father wouldn’t let his lost son stay ignorant. Zam had been playing everyone; that devious… then Zan smacked his own forehead. What else would Mischief do but keep playing the dumb cave boy to throw everyone off. Zam watched his brother’s face and saw the lights come on as his brother realized. Zam lifted a hand and poked his brother’s head. “Finally figure it out, did you?” Zam grinned. “Don’t let anyone know, it’s our best weapon for right now. Turn your shield on and lets go.”
