Description

These were serious and credible designs for a manned expedition to the Moon from the early fifties, by Wernher von Braun, published in a series of articles in Colliers Magazine under the heading "Man will conquer space soon!" The structures on the tanks are louvres, black on one side and white on the other, which would flip to provide a simple temperature control system. The long half pipe on a boom near the top is a solar powered mercury boiler. The central long leg acts as a main support and shock absorber, and compresses upwards on landing. The legs only provide balance which is why they are not so strong.

That's some impressively detailed modeling, I like how you've re-visualized the dreams of one of the founders of our modern space program. That is so cool!

I love the way you have rendered this image to resemble a color illustration from the era which the design was made.
