Nice idea. Decent postwork on the DOF. To address the lighting, the key thing I would suggest is don't be scared of shadows and darks. It is always tempting to show off as much of your model as possible, but it's the shadows that ultimately give shape and mood. For example, I should not be able to see the feet so clearly, and the light under the arm should not be there. Think about ambient occlusion. Build up lights one at a time in accordance with your idea of where the light is coming from. Of course the rules change between an outdoor scene and a studio glamour shot. Best guides for lighting in 3D are often found in photography books.

A nicely composed scene, the characters and the elements all work together really well, especially your use of foreground plants to further ensconce her into the forest. The dog does look unnaturally smooth, though, one reason I've never used many animals in renders is my lack of quality textures for them. I work in Daz but lighting's pretty much the same in most 3D programs near as I can tell. I agree with "RP" that the light under her arm is unnatural and might've been solved by simply making sure the light causing it had shadows enabled, this may've darkened her feet as well. A cel in front of your main light source with a tree outline may've helped to break up the light, with a dense environment like this one would think the light would be more dappled or mottled as it pierced through the branches. All-in-all a nice image and the main character's quite lovely, no wonder she has friends with her... :)
