Description

They were served dinner before anything else because it would be rude to do otherwise, seeing as how they'd traveled some distance to get there. It gave them a chance to all talk and get to know one another better. It also gave Brianna a chance to calm herself. She couldn't and wouldn't stop staring at Angus with a half-dazed and wistful look. She barely said two words and mostly just listened. When they'd all eaten their fill, Alduin pulled Brianna and Morna aside. "Why don't you two go wi' Mab an' Gwidion? I think they'd like ta take a little walk. Take the wolves wi' ya. But first...Magnus and I are going to ask Angus his questions. Magnus will be the witness. I think Angus'll feel more comfortable with us men - ya know. So, tell me both o' ya, what were the things ya put in the dream-spell?" Each in turn, Morna and Brianna whispered their additions in Alduin's ear. Now, only Alduin knew all three 'proofs'. He watched them leave, glad that Brianna didn't object. She was a bundle of nerves, he could tell. Angus didn't particularly like the idea of Moira going out without him, but this was important to all of them or they wouldn't have brought him here. "Be wary, love," he said as they left. Alduin signalled for him to follow them into the den where there was a good fire going. He felt a bit anxious, wondering if he failed this, if they'd send him back and make him leave Moira. They all sat down and Alduin began. "If yer the son of Brianna, there were a dream-spell cast upon ya a'fore she changed ya up wi' a human child. I know Mab's explained this to ya. After tanight, won't be no more secrets in this clan." Alduin explained the purpose of the spell to Angus - to protect him and hopefully bring him back home through Moira. Moira was to appear in the dream as she would be when she was a grown woman. "Now, tell me...what did ya dream, Angus?" "She'd always be in this beautiful place...like the place where we met that night. Flowers, birds singin', waterfalls. There'd be unicorns an' somethin' like a gret cat but it had the head of an eagle, claws an' wings. Twas always sleepin' at 'er feet. Don' know what they's called. There was deer too an' hares runnin' about. I always thought twas a magical amazin' place. I loved dreamin' about it. She'd take me in 'er arms an' comfort me. I weren't growed up, but she was. An' she'd sing this song ta me." "Hold there," Alduin said. "What were the words ta the song? Ya remember?" Angus scratched at his head and leaned forward, thinking hard. He could hear the melody but the words were muddled. "C'mon lad," Magnus said, "ya can do it. I know ya can." It was a comfort to know Magnus was rooting for him. Angus closed his eyes. For the life of him, all he could remember for certain was the chorus. Alduin told him to sing that then, so he did: "Just a song at twilight, when the lights are low and the flick’ring shadows softly come and go, though the heart be weary sad the day long , still to us at twilight comes love’s old sweet song - comes love’s own sweet song." "Ya know what?" Magnus exclaimed. "Moi used ta sing that song when she were a wee lassie. We asked 'er where she learned it an' she said she dreamed it." He threw his head back laughing and Alduin looked at him in disbelief. Alduin wasn't done though. "Alright...one more question. Moira wore somethin' 'round 'er neck. What were it?" Slowly Angus' head turned in the direction of Magnus. "T'were like that amulet e's wearin' - that symbol...the five-pointed star. When I first met Gwidion, 'e were wearin' it. Now 'e don't." Magnus picked the amulet from his chest, looking down at it. "Tis this same one Gwidion were wearin'. Tis mine. I gave it to 'im when I left ta gi' me back when I returned. Alduin gave it to me arter I learned a few o' tricks from 'im...fer protection. Mostly 'gainst mysel'," Magnus chuckled, "eh, brother?" ***** Continued below...

"Aye," Alduin smiled. "Ya still 'ad a ways ta go, di'nt ya?" Angus was looking at him expectantly. Alduin looked between Magnus and Angus, no readable expression on his face. "I s'pose ya want ta know if ya passed the test, lad." "Aye," Angus answered. "The cat creature's called a griffin, Angus. T'was one of the things. That were Morna's bit. The song were another - Brianna's addition. Dermit us'ta sing it to 'er. The amulet were mine cos I knew ya'd see it if ya e'er met up wi' Moira an' she took ya home." A slow smile spread over Angus' face as he looked to Magnus. "Does it mean I get ta keep 'er, Magnus?" Magnus laughed all the more. "Aye, Angus. It means e'en more than that...but glad ta know thet's the most important thing ta ya." "An' I'm Lady Brianna's son then?" "Aye, y'are lad." "I knew it...once Mab said what she did. I knew it!" Magnus slapped his knee. "Good! I like ya Angus. An' ya don' have any objections ta bein' so charmed do ya?" Angus shrugged with a grin. "If t'were some old hag or a harridan ya fixed me up wi' I might, but I could' nae picked better masel'. Nay, I got no objections. As t'were she were a vampire when I met 'er an' I still could' nae stay away. Ya know?" "Eh, well yer a braver man than me Angus," Alduin said. "Glad she's rid o' that curse!" He shook his head and gripped his brother's arm. "Yer son's a bloody genius, 'e is, Magnus." ***** For Roxy and Alicia, re: Lady Morna - she's a mountain fey but she's wed to the Lord of the Mair-Sidhe (Mer), which is why she reminds you of the sea-fae. Background is the "Celtic Great Hall" from DAZ. Chairs are from "Fantasy Tavern" and the table is from "The Study". Goblets and pitcher from RDNA "Fantasy Banquet" set (free). Still having trouble with things warping. I got rid of most of it with my friend the clone brush but you can see it in the table. This is really frustrating. I'm wondering if it's because of the 'domed' surface under the Material Preview in the Material Room. This happens with pillars and multi-layered things like table/desk tops and sometimes sides, or fireplace mantles. Any suggestions? This was my issue with the boat and the rigging ropes. Bulge - grrrrr.

Great chapter and love the image. Magnus' expression is too much. It seems he has some good humor in him after all. Nice work with the clone brush, because I can't see any fixes/mistakes. Excellent work. I know what you mean about the warpage. Certain models do it since Poser 7. Maybe they're too old to work properly, I'm not sure. I have a thought, but I will have to experiment first.

This is really great and I am glad the lad passed. It was suspenseful non the less especially when he faltered over the words to the song. Magnus shows a sense of uproarious humour fitting of a warrior who has nearly fought to the death a few times and can now relax knowing "he is already dead," living on borrowed time, however you want to phrase it. I know this feeling because I am one of those persons who has tasted death, more than once in fact, and in active situations not in bed or sick, and it is kind of liberating to come out on the other side. I see that clearly in how you have done Magnus. So I know that I can expect great things of this man.
