Description

A very rare treat here, especially for all you young and old model makers, air museum and airshow goers. Didn't want to add a frame and detract any attention from this old girl restored to like new condition. Meet "Ruff Stuff", named in honor of a still vibrant WWII P-38, Lockheed Lightning pilot by the name of Norb Ruff who lives today in Wisconsin. Lockheed built more than 10,000 Lightnings during WWII. They were particularly valued for long range and reliability in the Pacific Theater. Today there are less than 1/2 dozen flying. UPDATE: Thanks to Renderosity artist "neiwil", I have just found out that Norb Ruff saw this plane at Oshgosh in 2007 but died a few months later in November 2007. Check out neiwil's excellent Poser Tribute and Memorial in his gallery. Title is Ruff Stuff (for bmac62). Here's his link to copy/paste in your browser if needed. http://www.renderosity.com/mod/gallery/browse.php?user_id=210847 Have photos of this bird in the air and have uploaded one...see "Ruff Stuff Airborne". This photo was taken Aug 24, 2008 at Kansas City's Aviation Expo. Bill

This reminds me of the Confederate Air Force show we have here every few years. We get great shows in this area, since we live in proximity (but not close) to our airport. We had a mock dogfight between a Japanese Zero and a Corsair from WWII over our backyard one year. Fascinating.

Beautiful restoration on this historical airplane. I'm sure it's very meaningful to air force buffs. We saw 'puff the magic dragon' at an airshow once. My husband was thrilled to see it and the other planes.
