Description

These are the seeds of the Silver Maple tree, a form sometimes called whirligigs because the seeds fly in a spinning helicopter blade fashion to the earth. Please view full size. These were suspended then photographed against an infinity curve background. Strange, the seed pods may be sensitive to the earths magnetic field. Why? When I turned the suspended pods each turned again to face north. That was quite syrprising.

Wonderful image! A great idea, well realized. Weird, about them turning all in one direction.

Oh Tom now you have stirred my curiosity as well about the magnetism. Very creative to photograph these seeds, I don't think I have ever seen them as objects for photography.

I love those things. I used to play with them for hours as a child, but had no clue about the magnetism. I used to whistle with them, and drop them, and take them apart...I just love this. It reminds me of things I haven't thought about in years. Through the eyes of a child, almost. Thanks for the great post. I love it.

I remember these from my childhood also. They are so graceful as they fall to the ground. This shot is so good! The veining in the wing is so clear! Stunning and stellar!
