Description

A beautifully restored castle of the 17th century, Parkes Castle is a fortified manor house with a stone bawne enclosure. The house itself forms one part of the defensive walls which feature round turrets on 2 of the 5 sides. Captain Robert Parke built the manor house on the grounds of a previous stronghold of the O'Rourkes in 1609. Parkes castle rises 3 stories on shores of Lough Gill and boasts wide mullioned windows and gabled roofs. The interior of the castle has recently been restored using the old methods of fine workmanship in Irish oak. The courtyard and the larger round tower castle (Castle of Newtowne) of the Parkes site, dates back to the 1100's King of Br

The perspective accents the levels and angular aspects of the castle, and the colors are awesome. I really enjoyed reading the history too - it adds even more to an already stunning presentation.

My guide to the ending of all this has been Desmond who was deposed by Ormond. To see the branch at the beginning is to see how able it was wielded.

Lovely image Danny, looks like you got yourself a polariser too. No EXIF, which is strange, did you strip it deliberately? As I am beginning to realise (and it's not a criticism 'cos I'm guilty of the same thing) the Canon wide angles make vertical parallels... well not! Gonna start investigating the free transform tool in PS to see if I can sort out some of my wider shots. Hope you are OK, Steve.

Not quite accurate. if I recall correctly--Strongbow was a Norman, was he not? So now the many Irish "fitzes" (fils de), who became fully "Irish" later, and were treated miserably with the others, because they were Catholic. Something very similar happened with the Lombards in Northern Italy--who became fully "Italian" under the heel of the French and Austrians and Spanish. Then, of course, there were the Picts and the Scots.

Not inaccurate Hops? the Normans were established as the English Kings by the 11 centuary so after 900 years I think I can call them English
