Good morning everyone. I am posting in order to ask everyone's opinion of a Wacom Tablet and how well it works with Adobe Photoshop 7. I'm looking into purchasing one for graphics purposes, and I'd like to know how useful, reliable, etc. it is. I figure someone here probably owns/has owned one and if you could give me your opinion of it, I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks and have a great day, ~Mac D.

Just keep two things in mind: The first four weeks with a graphic tablet are pure hell, afterwards youll ask yourself how you could ever work without. Second thing: Graphic tablets are not so great if you use two monitors, as your movements are confined to your primary display.

My boss has a small wacom, and when I am doing Sign design in corel at work I cannot stand the mouse and the iddi-biddi workable area. Can I use a regular mouse attached to a separate port and still have the pen attached and use them both?

@hendrikm "your movements are confined to your primary display." I have a Wacom graphire2 and use a Matrox G550 dual-head video card with the bundled Matrox software/drivers etc, and I have been able to use the tablet over both displays with no problems. @odeathoflife from my experience the mouse and the tablet are connected to different ports (my wacom is usb) with the wacom tablet driver you can still use both. @MacD hendrikm is right...youll ask yourself how you could ever work without a tablet! :-)>

@punkclown: hmpf, my matrox G400 or my pendriver doesnt support this... have to check it out @odeathoflife: I use both too, as using a pen is not always comfortable while handling standard software

:-(> I hope either Wacom or Martrox have driver updates or some other kind of support that may help you overcome this problem hendrikm...good luck!

Odeath, I have my setup at work in that exact configuration. There ARE times when the good old mouse is handy to have around...

Sometimes (to piss-off co-workers that take over my system while i'm at lunch) i leave my 4D mouse ON the tablet tucked under my shelf, knowing full well the person will use the normal mouse to move about the system. If BOTH mouses (mice?) are giving coordinates to the computer, the cursor jumps back and forth between the tablet mouse and the one they are using!!!

They usually walk away cursing and leave my system alone for awhile after that :)

Hendrikm, I also have a Matrox G450 DualHead and like PC, mine works fine across screens. What's your driver ver? My driver package version is: 5.51.005

more of my 2c
:)

@retrocity: I dont have a wacom tablet, I have (and tested) several no-name ones. But Ill give Wacom another closer look at the photokina fair in september. Got even a newer driver than you do: 5.82.10, but Ive got a G400. One question: Can you use both monitors in absolute mode (left side of your tablet is left side of the left monitor and rtight side of the tablet is right side of the right monitor) or only in mouse-mode?

MacD. ( ) posted Fri, 09 August 2002 at 2:27 PM

Well, I picked up my tablet and so far have been very impressed with it. A big thanks to all of you making your suggestions on it. Right now I only have one more questions left: Do any of you have links to some good tutorials on coloring with a tablet in Photoshop? I've been looking around Renderosity and have found some that are unbelievable helpful, but I was curious if any of you happen to know of any other good places to look? Thanks again and have a wonderful day, ~Mac D.
