Hello this I made today...I'm debating whether to put in fangs or not...and if so, what sort of fangs? also, any other criticisms/comments please do speak out =) It will, of course, need a texture map to look half decent, and fortunately I have Eshal helping out and giving me ideas for it (thanks!) Would anyone want this guy when I'm finished? SewerRat

That looks excellent, guaranteed to bring on Techno-Arachnophobia :) Paul

Make the fangs a feature that we can add or delete - he's kinda cute without them!

heya; yeah, morphable fangs! she's adorable! :) (um, maybe make a scowl-brow morph too, to make her look meaner.)

yeah I think I'll make the spider work as-is...just add a texture map then leave it and have an add-on pack with fangs, weapons, more pipes etc. and make a scowl-brow morph too =) but I don't think you'll get it to look very mean I was originally planning to make it scary-looking but ended up changing it to look manga-cutesy...I think I'll need to go back quite far to make it scary again, make it more angular, longer, the legs going more down instead of sideways etc. it shouldn't really be a big job to make it look meaner, but would probably be easier just to make a second spider that looks mean rather than make this one mean glad you like it =) that really warms my heart! (because I crave attention grin) SewerRat

heya; good idea, sewersie! (we need a cuter name for you, too.) this reminds me of the roboticized creatures in a sonic the hedgehog game.

bloodsong, I've already got the nickname Az =) Ikyoto: I'll post it as soon as it's ready...I'm just setting material names for it....and ran into a small problem, UVMapper left those dreaded black holes gasp in the model...I don't know how to fix that, I'll try exporting from max again then uvmapping also, because when I export from max it doesn't seem to have any texture co-ordinates, which means things like the pipe will be a twisty curvy line on the texture map, I'd much prefer to have one long strip to paint it onto. Then I need to set up joint parameters, but since I don't intend to have many parts bend that shouldn't be too time consuming however, I've got to study math today, got a test tomorrow, then I'm going out that night probably, going out saturday, so I'll only get to do it sat night, which means if all goes well expect it here sunday australia time, saturday US time SewerRat (ok ok bloodsong) Sewersie

Have you seen/read Masamune Shirow's "Ghost in the Shell"? His arachnid vehicles (fuchikomas) are more mechanical and mean-looking and you said that that was not your intention, but there's a custom of manga characters turning "cartoony" suddenly (usually in moments of embarrasement, like when WB's Coyote looks at the camera). So, you could make a MT to change the face from a mechanical-cold face to a funny cartoon one.

I haven't seen ghost in the shell, my video store doesn't have it :( so I've got to wait until I next rent videos from my friends place but I was having the style (not any specific part 'tho) of angel cop, especially the armour, in mind when I did this I'll have to rent the angel cop videos again sometime and take a few screenshots so I can make the armour from that =) I don't much like anime characters in 3d, usually they look really creepy and alien (IMHO of course), but the anime armour/clothing on "normal" figures looks cool =) anyway, I'm ditching my friends tonight and not leaving the house (it's ungodly hot) so I'll try to get the spider done I've got a choice, either upload it without any texture co-ords for the body, or else go back to max and export from there and fingers crossed, hope UVMapper doesn't do this to me when I try again was a fix for UVMapper leaving holes ever found? if I import the model, then export it, even without changing anything it leaves the hole. and yes, I tried with the latest version as well SewerRat

I agree with you regarding 3D manga characters. From what I've seen in vinyl figures it takes a lot of inspiration to make a model that looks manga and doesn't look scary (I mean humans, not monsters, of course). And almost always they look stranger than their 2D counterparts. "Where will I go? The Web is so big..." Ghost in the Shell (the movie)
