Subject: Network Rendering , I'm confused.???????

I'm trying to render a single frame picture over the Network, but I'm having problems. First of all, can you only render Animations over the network? I'm trying to render a still over the network using both the Host and the Client computers, is this possible? I have "Use Host to Render" and "Tile Optimization" checked. But the render only appears on the client.What is the secret to setting it up to do what I want? Or am I trying to do it wrong? The computers are talking to each other fine over the TCP/IP but I'm lost. Any help would make my day, I'm sure someone out there is an expert on this subject. Has anyone successfully done what I'm trying to do? Please help??????? Thanks, kaom

Kaom, I've got the manual right here in front of me. Your doing everything right. Don't worry. It says in the manual under "Monitoring Network Rendering": 'You will not see the scene being rendered on the server. However, you can go to the client computers and see the section that client is rendering.' Hope this helps! ;-)

miden1138, I htought I was doing it right. I was reading straight fromthe manual too, but I freaked out because I wasn't seeing anything on my server. Is it normal to see small rectangular shapes being rendered on the client? They are in random places on the screen. Do you see the whole image on the client? Or do you just see parts of it at a time? Thanks, I thought I was following the directions right, but you can never be too sure. Thanks, kaom

I've got one more question that I'm not completely clear on. On page-314 of the Manual, it says> "By default, Bryce divides the scene by frames and sends each client computer one frame at a time for rendering. While this works well for large animations,a single frame scene is sent to a single machine for rendering, even if there are many computers in the client list. With Tile Optimization turned on, Bryce breaks each frame of an animation or single frame scene into multiple tiles and sends these files to the client computers for rndering, improving the efficiency of the network render." My question pertaining to this little paragraph is- If I'm just rendering a single frame still image, Doboth the Server and the Client render the shot. Or does the server just send it off for just the Client to render? Do I only benefit from network rendering if I'm rendering an actual animation? If I'm just rendering a single still image do both computers render? I just want to make sure I'm clear on this. I really want to know. Thanks, kaom

I don't really know a whole lot about this kind of stuff, but it sounds to me that if you are rendering a single scene, Bryce will tile the image and both the client and the server will render their own little sections. Both will work on it at the same time. You just won't be able to see what the "server" is up to, only the clients. To be clear, I've never actually done this, and I probably won't ever get the chance. This is the impression that I get when I read the manual. If the client is only rendering, say, the top left corner of the image, then it's logical that all you will see when you check up on that computer is that small section that it is actually working on. Well, like I said, I'm not an expert at this stuff, and I've never actually done it. But I do hope this helps, Kaom. Good luck! ;-)

Thanks for your help miden1138, I think I'm understanding now, but time will tell as I render several test scenes on the network. I keep you posted as to what I end up with. Thanks for your help. kaom

For rendering a single image you must turn Tile Optimization on for both machines to render. Spit
