Subject: Reality Render thread. A new beginning.

Playing around with some variations on Callad's lighting techniques.  This time, I took a 12 sided cylinder in Hex and chopped it in half.  Gave it a high gloss black top and bottom.  Sized it out large enough that it would fit behind the camera and still provide that gloss white background.  Then turned the sides into my mesh light.  With the half dome/quarter dome/backdrop setup I was getting about 70k s/s with around 700% efficiency while rendering.  With this setup I was getting around 190k s/s with my efficiecy about the same.  As far as the render itself goes, used stock settings on the model herself and my own blacksmith-created textures on the bra and skirt.

Not sure where to ask, but would someone know someone, or able to make a model for me please?  A mermaid tail..

Would anyone be willing to share their new created meshs with someone who can't seem to make the deformers work at all?  I might be willing to make it worth  your while.  *grins

If you were living much closer, then I would take you up on the offer   However, that would be false pretensions as I have no idea about deformers.

The followup to my previous render.  This time the full hot uniforms-schoolgirl set has been modified.  Still trying to develop a workable workflow integrating Blacksmith.  Used a backdrop this time with my cylinder light used.  Was still getting over 100k s/s with about 350% efficiency; so, it seems my speed on the last render wasn't a fluke.

This started out as a test render for Look At My Hair, but I cheated a little in order to get the effect I eventually decided on. I exported the LAMH as an .obj into Reality successfully, but wasn't completely happy with it, so I combined the Reality render with 2 3Delight renders with the same default shader, one with and one without shadows. I wasn't pleased with any of the renders alone, so I blended them all together, and here is the end result. Have to say, LAMH is surprisingly easy to use, and the .obj exporter means it can be exported into Reality, which is a must for me!

I found something with Reality.  If you copy textures off a model, say Genesis 1, to Genesis 2 in reality, go back to the scene and hide Genesis 1, Genesis 2 wont have any textures.

Pret-a-3D ( ) posted Thu, 17 January 2013 at 8:45 AM

I had copied it from the Reality material editor.

Made a scene with genesis1 and a mertail.  Merged a previous scene that had genesis and a mertail, call them genesis2 and mertail2.

Loaded Reality, copied w/textures from genesis2 onto genesis1m, while in realirty material editor.  Went back into scene and hid genesis2 and mertail2.  Loaded reality and genesis1 was all null.

It might of been, when I hid genesis2 in the scene, it did not export to reality.

Pret-a-3D ( ) posted Thu, 17 January 2013 at 4:41 PM

Thank you lasserline.

there is no "export to Reality" option so I don't knwo what you meant by that.

if you hide a figure in Reality then that figure is removed from Reality. If you meant that you right-cliked on a material, selected copy w/texture, selected another material, right-clicked on it and then selected paste, then that system should be indipendent from the original figure.

Maybe others can test this procuedure. Did you use the procedure that I described above?

This one is more than likely for Paolo since he knows his product best.  I recently got Jepes Jewels and Tears V4 here.  Not sure if you're familiar with how it works; but I can basically sum it up this way.  You create a geometry shell for your character and then apply one of the settings.  The one I've tried so far is the water drop option.  It basically covers either the whole body or whatever section you select like arms or head or neck or collars.  When I did a quick test render in 3delight it worked perfectly.  What it basically is is a spec and bump map applied to either the whole body or body part you choose.  When trying it out in Lux, the geometry shell shows up with the appropriate maps applied; but there is no difference in the render.  Plain ol' dry skin.  Any ideas on how to make it work in reality/lux.

bobvan ( ) posted Thu, 17 January 2013 at 9:36 PM

Funny you should mention that for the 1st time in almot a year I am using a few 3Delight renders in my next chapter. Sometimes 10 minutes to get a decent render that would prolly take something like 17 hours due to all the convert to lights can be a nice break. In no means am I done with Reality or Lux since I KNOW it is by far the superior rendering engine. Its just nice to have options...

Pret-a-3D ( ) posted Thu, 17 January 2013 at 9:54 PM

Sharkbytes, the issue with that products is that it needs displacement and subdivision. These are in Reality, not in Studio. Because the product is not a model by itself but a series of maps on top of a duplicated figure, you need to play with the displacement values. Unfortunately this requires an enourmous amount of memory because you need to subdivide a whole figure, which can result easily in a couple of million polys being generated in Lux. It can work but it's extremely heavy. It's unfortunate because most of the geometry that gets subdivided is not visible. I would suggest to check if there is some other product available that has objects actually modelled. Those would take a fraction of the time and memory required by the Jewels and Tears .

Paolo.. maybe I'll use it as inspiration and try working with LIE with something that uses bump and or nrm and spec instead of disp?  I've been working a bit lately with the LIE and am really liking the results I've been getting on my test renders.  Nothing yet the quality that I'd share with the general public and there's still a lot of the internal settings of the mlie that I need to learn; but, it's coming along.  My creativity is a bit on hold right now because the new quarter for school has started and I'm taking a manual drafting class along with CAD and some advanced math classes.  My brain is a bit overwhelmed and I'm back at the point where i'm just using studio for mild relaxation.

I don't see why you can't.  In my image I used Dublin with her skin. I made NO changes just applied everything to V4, added clothing, hair, Callad's light, floor and walls. Followed the suggestions for the lighting in the guilde and that was it.  It was fool proof. :) If I can do it, anyone can.  Just ask Callad.. hehe
