I don't really like it, but I'd like to see what you guys think of it. Wings3D, Bryce5, and Paint Shop Pro. Any ideas?

Well the mushroom looks cool! The POV looks good too! What you doing with it?

I never intended to make art.

I'm not sure--that's why I need ideas lol Maybe some planes circling the cloud, but no, that would just look corny. I've already tried a figure close to the camera, no dice. I just don't know what else to do with it, and yet I don't like the overall look. Mainly I don't like the mushroom cloud. There's something wrong with it, but I can't seem to fix it. =(

I was thinking that maybe its because your explosion is all fire and no cloud. But as you see the upper right one is just like yours. My first instinct tells me that it looks like its cut out and plastered onto your image because of the dark cloudy out line. Throw in some bones maybe. Or a wrecked car or two. (huh, easier said than done, I'm sure).

I think the upper portion of the mushroom should be much darker, leaving the centre lit like it is. You wouldn't get planes flying around in this...too much turbulance in the air and probably too soon after the e.m.-pulse. It's a great attempt but I'd pull back from it a bit more.... Just my 0.02p

I think I've got it. 1) Your background is too light. The light from the mushroom cloud would out brighten the background. 2) The texture is too uniform. Look at the examples above. There's alot of variation.

I'll go out on a limb, but maybe pull back some, give it a sense of grand scale..lotsa little buildings being 'neutroned', something that just seems awesome..just a thought..

Agree, pan back and show some destruction. Hmmmm, I think I know a picture that might help ... MoonGoat (Grades the movie a B)

The bones sound like an excellent idea! Good luck here Robert=)

I never intended to make art.

shinyary2 ( ) posted Fri, 29 July 2005 at 2:42 PM

Agree with you MoonGoat, the movie could have been better. Had some cool imagery, though--the concept of heaven vs. hell was very good I think, fits in well with many religious views on the subject. Reeves hasn't had a good movie since the Matrix (the first one, I mean).

Sans2012 ( ) posted Fri, 29 July 2005 at 2:54 PM

It was like Dogma and Devils advocate I think=)

I agree again, I'm personally hoping he can pull a miracle for A Scanner Darkly. Hate to see a good book become a bad movie.

shinyary2 ( ) posted Sat, 30 July 2005 at 9:09 AM

Hmm... I don't think I'm even going to see that. I think it's a pretty bad idea right from the start to make it what amounts to a cartoon, especially after Disney FINALLY realized that there is more money to be made in CGI animations (although Disney's movies suck in my opinion, without Pixar they are just floundering--Pixar on the other hand hasn't made a bad movie yet and they seem to be continuing their trend, let's hope at least). But I've never liked badly done on purpose animation; I hated the way they did Titan: A.E., even if it was a decent enough movie. Guess I'm just too much of a digital guy. =)

Sans2012 ( ) posted Sat, 30 July 2005 at 9:16 AM

You hated the way Titan: A.E. looked/created? Oh, I thought it looked cool;)

I never intended to make art.

shinyary2 ( ) posted Sat, 30 July 2005 at 10:31 AM

It was cool, except for the characters, which looked terrible. They should have made the entire thing 3D, in my opinion. I liked the alien creatures, they were quite cool. It just feels like a waste, like they aren't even just being lazy, but they actually WANT it to look bad. I don't know; it's probably just a personal thing. Hmm... this whole thing is starting to look like a rant. =( sorry about that. ;)

I do see your point Robert, It was an unusual mix. Different though I suppose. Its all good my friend;)

MoonGoat ( ) posted Sat, 30 July 2005 at 12:11 PM

Meh, I dont remember Titan that much but I think cartoonish characters against all 3D backgrounds can be interesting if done right. But not always. Goes back to watching Animatrix

Aye, Last Flight of the Osiris--good graphics, good story, very well done in every respect.
