Basically what I show You here is a Soft Box...to defuse Light, I believe, and here is One that is available to all. Shown is an 8 Litre White (Clean Inside) Bucket, or Ice Cream Container or similar. Cut One hole in the Bottom (I have many ...because a Plant was growing in the Bucket) and put Your Subject (Watch or whatever) on White Paper. Ideal for Macros, and in a Sterile Environment...and no Wind...even Insects won't be able to Bugger off. Make the Hole only big enough to put Your Lens through. *wink* After You have done Your Shots, You can pack everything up in the Bucket ...and be on Your merry way. This Free Tutorial is brought to You by TredzArt Down Under. *salute*

Ok so then what light do you put in it... I don't eat that much ice cream so I have to use my drywall mud pails. How about a flashlight.

Doug...Sunlight was used...if You do this inside...Natural Light from near a WWndow will suffice.

Not when Glenn McGrath is in town :O Good idea Brian - It is wonderful to see innovative thinking to solve problems or make use of otherwise discarded materials.

Cool!! Thanks a lot Commander, I'll try this ASAP!...

That's AWESOME!!! Before I could afford softboxes I used to use 2 big (4x8') sheets of foam-core, taped together along one vertical axis. You put the light so it shines into the angle formed by the foam-core and then you can adjust the spill and intensity of the light by adjusting the angle. mjr.

TY HC....I very much appreciate your sharing this most-cool idea. The softbox watch photo rules by a long shot. I just may have to make this now(or very soon). I wonder...Does it matter what kind of plant I grow in the bucket prior to converting it to a soft box? Also...do I need to punch in the six smaller perimeter holes?...or did you already have those for drainage...when it was a plant container? -Jeff :-)

Tedz ( ) posted Sun, 24 July 2005 at 5:50 PM

G'day Mate...You don't need the 6 Small Perimeter Holes... unless You are Growing Pot Plants wink. Once Your Bucket is "Bon Appertite"...as they say somewhere in Europe....You can also use it with a Desk Top Halogen Lamp...remember...a White Bucket....and...the Lamp gives the Container...and the Subject Within...a nice "soft" Light....but...if it is Macros of Insects or wee Furry Animals...they may Fry under the Lamp....I know...I tried to Photograph a Marsh Mallow...and before I could say....Booooya! .....it was Toasted!!!

lol..l.boooya marsh mallow. Thanks for the hhholy clarification and other elaborations. No six holes should be necessary then ;-). peace/jeff :-)
