Subject: Nose bumps are too deep!

Hi there

I use CS3 with transposer to import Poser models. Usually there's lots of tweaking to be done to get things right, but something that strucks me is that, the bump maps in the face don't hace the same effect as in poser... Usually I get too deep bumps in the tip of the nose, while the rest of the face is OK... anyway to solve this? Thanks,

Ike. *BTW, it is the same map applied to the whole face, so I can't set the bump strength lower in the nose area... and I'd like to know if there's any method that doesn't involve Photoshop in it... (I already know how to do it that way... :D)

The one thing that springs to mind is lighting the bump map in a 2D application. Especially because you want to change just a part of the bumps. But, another thing can be that the deepness of the bumps stands out more because it is such an articulate relatively small, round part of the face. So you bump map is too strong everywhere. Then you could just change the bump height in the shader. Good luck! (I am now in contact with Carrara Support about no texture maps at all in OSX with Poser 4, so I can not try out the situation, yet)

You're right, the easiest solution would be to lower the bump strenght in a paint proggie, but I'm just curious to see if there's a solution right inside Carrara so I don't have to be switching back and forth...And cause I don't want to touch a bump map that looks ok in Poser, it's just CS3 who's got the problem with him.

And secondly no,... the bumps are not too strong in the rest of the face, they look ok in the cheeks, chin, and everywhere.. it's just the nose that looks full of blackheads! Too ugly.... (perhaps for a teenager look would be useful... :D)

Hey, and I hope your problem is solved soon, I'm under XP so can't help. Thanks!

Trying playing with the bump amplitude on the facial texture. I know the rest of the face is fine, but it may still be fine after the slight tweaking necessary. Other then that, I'd have to say its all about Photoshop:)

Here's a method you might try. It's a bit of a fiddle getting the right point for elevation to work but it has the advantage that you can use the blend to smooth the transition. I've used 'none' for my second source but you could easily repeat the bump map (Ctrl+click drag Source 1 to Source 2) and then reduce the brightness for precise control. HTH, Mark
