I work in the area, but do not have the level of skills you need. Will keep my eyes peeled for you though. Try making a call to Triton college in River Grove. (708)-456-0300. Plenty of hungry Graphic Artists out there. Try getting hold of the Dean or Department head of the Graphic Arts division there. Spanfarkle<;)>
I live in Chicago... sounds like a good deal. Do they have AutoCad and Lightscape too? Meantime, have you tried the School of the Art Institute? They've got a job board. I don't think anyone there knows VIZ, since the School is on Macintosh. Can't hurt to try, though. They do have a school of interior architecture there, so chances are someone is familiar with AutoCad.
Yes, it's an autocad shop. Their computer guy (who's an architect) is a Autocad wiz. I'm hardly an expert at 3DS, but if Lightscape is the lighting plugin that I think it is, then yes. One problem they have is that they have all these cool toys and not enough time to master them. They have people who work with VIZ, but it takes them a long time to do stuff, making the guys who pay the bills thinking it would make sense to hire an expert to do the 3d and presentation stuff and have their expensive architects do things that they can bill for. But that is sort of how these things work, I guess. I've had RDS for years and JeffH (and others) can do things in it that amaze me. Stuff I wouldn't have though possible to accomplish with it.

In real life I'm a network engineer in Chicago. A client of mine, a midsized architectural firm, mentioned they got approval to hire a fill time graphics guy. He was going to talk to Columbia for leads on people. I mentioned I might be able find some leads for them, and he said to go ahead. No promises that this will amount to anything. They own 3DS Viz (Like 3DS Max, but mostly for still renders) but don't really have anyone with enough skill in it to do neat stuff, or any of their architects with the time to get the skill. Plus they need the standard photoshop and Pagemaker expertse. In addition they were hoping for someone to figure out how to make their customer work products more exciting. The owner felt that a recent project was very exciting, the building was going to be very interesting, but even he could not get excited by the drawings and images they produced for it. Anyway, this would be full time, no idea of pay, in downtown Chicago. Pretty much have to be local now I would expect. Enviroment is NT, with decent hardware and output stuff.
