There isn't currently an AI option in the contests due to copyright concerns since many AI programs are trained with databases made from web crawls that don't distinguish copyrighted from open source.

Hi, all! Back from clinic, took less time than they said. All should be good to go on Friday, hope they're right about everything else being fairly quick & simple with a short recovery time because it is minor and a common procedure. At least I'll be getting the good drugs. ;-)
Love the old Christmas towns. Those ancient buildings, towers & historic castles & churches are always wonderful to see be it in art or in person.
AI art & copyright quibbles, yeah I kinda had a feeling that might be an issue w/regard to contests. Official ones anyway. Guess we'll have to wait & see when/if it ever gets resolved. LOL! Shouldn't take more than a century or ten. ;-)

Re the copyright thing, if you've ever seen Vladimir Chopine's (geekatplay) videos over on YouTube, most of that is balderdash anyway. AI takes reference from images, does not copy or use them to create our images.

All you need to do is a bit of research... as gill said...
How does an AI generate images?......simply put
To generate images, the machine uses two neural networks. The first neural network is used to create the image based on the text input by the user. The second neural network analyzes the generated image with reference images. By comparing the photos, it creates a score to determine the accuracy of the generated image.
As to why, lets say someone ask the ai to render megan fox...it will never ever look like her, it will be a close approximation, if it was actually using images...why not just grab one...then it would be...
A never ending debt...
Problem seems to be, though, that many people, both with and without claims to being experts, (a) do not understand that, (b) refuse to believe that, and/or (c) know exactly how it works but still scream blue murder because "how dare you look at my precious blah-blah-license-money-lawyers" etc. Permission culture often goes way too far, imho. Which is one of the many reasons we can't have nice things.
Oh, and let us not forget the mistaken belief that A.I. is the mythical "Make Art Button" beast that gives maximum return for minimum -- maybe even zero -- effort. Which as we who use it can testify it ain't necessarily so.
Brydie: glad things are going to go well. Health stuff is always a worry.
Here are a couple of my old town Christmas image. Couldn't get much until I threw in the name Thomas Kincaid. :-)

AI images no effort, huh? Just hours and hours of changing words around or adding/edeleting them. At least for me. lol
Main Mid-J bot is also down for me still, but at least I can still play on my own server. Lots of cool images!
As for the Xmas contest, you can all just post someting here if you want, owr own AI christmas. Winner gets a high five and bragging rights, lol... ;)
Thoes bus driver images are some crazy sh*t Len... :)
Use your own server...using your own server is the only way to go with Midjourney, didn't realize that until Mid-J went down for maintenance, the no looking for your project makes concentration easier. No distractions if you want ideas go to the main server and get them come back and try them, I'm such a damm dummy it took this long to figger that out. Response times for the bot to engage is faster even in relaxed mode...ya'll probably figured that out already me I'm just a damm dirty Biker what do I know slow on the uptake went to the BFFI school for Art (Brute Force and Freaking Ignorance) just get a bigger hammer.
Remember...No matter where you go there you are
Just thought I'd let you know that the Lexica website, which is a search engine for Stable Diffusion images, has developed their own AI which you can sign up for and use for free. Here's the website :https://z.lexica.art/ Click on the text that says "Aperture", you can then sign up using either your Google account or you can use your e-mail address. I've found that their AI seems to be more like DALL-E 2 and is more focused on photographic images but personally from playing around with it last night, I think it may be even better than DALL-E-2 in some ways. Here are a few images I did last night.

And I noticed Darkglass' comment about Megan Fox, here's one I did of her in a gold sequined dress:

BTW the prompts I used for the other women involved the phrase, "with jewelry and watch", e.g. "blonde woman with.., brunette woman with..," etc. If you're more into photographic AI then you may want to check this out.
Are any of you following the comments under the gallery image "NO AI". (Darkglass I saw your post there. Well said.) Boy, we are not liked. This is really confusing to me that the way you create or the time spent is such an issue. Is there not room for everyone? One person said fractals and photos should not be allowed either. :-( Makes me sad.
Lyla
I'm not biting. Mainly becuase it's a boring "discussion" now. Same old.
Funny though, how someone can LITERALLY open a can of paint and throw it at a canvas and call that art. My sketches aren't brilliant, but some of those I see on DA from folk having a pop at AI .... realy. I've seen better from a 5 year old child, so why they should be worried about losing out I have no idea.
Plus, they think it's OK for them to say what they like about AI art and those who create it (and yes, we DO create it), but if we dare say anything about their awful output, we're in the wrong. Can't win.....
Not saying any more now otherwise I may get into trouble ;)
Gill
I wonder ... if anyone started using MS Paint to draw bananas duct taped to walls would there be a "Stop Using MS Paint" campaign? Complete with tons of misinformation, disinformation and shall we say, less than complementary commentary on the skills, standards, ethics, morals, taste and maybe even the personal habits of anyone who dares use THAT COMPUTER PROGRAM to produce "art"?
Not gonna comment further because really there ain't no point. :sigh:
I used to get in all kinds of trouble around here even while I was a Mod. Someone would say something about Fractals not being art and that would be it I'd tell them to go back to putting a new outfit on their electronic Barbie Dolls and shut the F up about a Genre they obviously know nothing about. I've mellowed since then now I don't shive a get that they're still stuck playing with Dolls...shut up and leave everyone else alone and they ain't going to chase me away with their disdain for using AI. Joke them joke them all...
Remember...No matter where you go there you are
Nuts! Cannot find button to edit last post. Apologies. I noticed the artist made no mention of which method they used to create their "No AI" piece. Does not look 3d or a photograph. Certainly not one of what they probably consider "Satan's apps". That leaves Photoshop or one of its many siblings. Can't be MS Paint because I don't think you can use clipart in it -- or at least I couldn't get it to do that back in the day on Windows 95. Just curious. I might like to try it out. ;-)
I should go back and try a few more nonsense renders with the word 'num-nuts', maybe a few of the no AI people might show up, snicker... ;)
Num-nuts - A slang term that is used to depict someone who is a constant source of trouble. Usually an individual who screws up, or constantly makes mistakes, someone who botches a job, or situation.

Not forgetting nomarks
Noun. no-mark (plural no-marks) (British, slang) An insignificant person; one who fails to make a mark.
Gill

Here is my num-nut. It says all I need to say about these people. Prompt was the muppet one, portrait num-nut no-mark whine yellow tape...and then all the descriptive words from it that I could cram into Wombo. I tried using steampunk, got some really decent images that are too good to waste on num-nuts so will save for another time. lol
