Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2026 Jun 26 12:39 pm)
Hi Daymond42, Haven't heard anything or suffered the symptoms myself. Just tested PP2014 Game Dev & P11 Pro both work fine. Although it is not unheard of for Poser or any app to come unstuck with a Windows 10 update. Usually a security patch.
This is a long shot but worth a try even though PP2012 should be perfectly suitable to operate on W10
Right click on Poser app and choose the fourth option "Troubleshoot Compatibility" let it do its thing then when it stops choose "Try recommended settings" if it works when you close Poser you will get asked to keep the new settings.

Unfortunately I've tried all of the above, as far as the compatibility settings and such.
Have you gotten the newest Windows 10 update that came out yesterday? I think they're calling it the Windows 10 Anniversary Update. That is the one that I'm referring to

Windows 10 Pro 64bit
I think Microsoft stagger the updates globally so the problem I have two weeks ago you might get now and vise-versa. I had same issue with Substance Designer a couple of weeks back. Working fine and up to date and built for W10 I went back a day or two later to finish the job and it crashed each and every time on the splash screen so I run the troubleshooter and it works now. The Anniversary update - "Windows just keeps getting better and better" just checked and mine has not come through yet but obviously something to look forward to. Even if you roll it back MS will stick it back again unfortunatley

Hi. Not sure why your Poser Pro 2012 is crashing at start up, Perhaps the LibraryPrefs.xml or Poser.ini is corrupted. One of the Windows/Internet Explorer Updates broke Poser before and smith micro had to fix it
I've just tried Poser 9 'which is the non Pro version of 2012' and it is running ok with the Anniversary update. Poser Pro 2014 is running ok and Poser 11 Pro is actually running more smoothly on my pc since the update

You need to re-authorise Poser under the security options of Windows 10.
Where is this option to "re-authorize"? I've not seen anything of the sort.
Update: Photoshop CS6 is also crashing upon startup. This update is a failure of epic proportions, and apparently, my copy never enabled restore points, so I can't even roll back.

To get back to the previous build do this. It worked for me.
ok so you are going to have to hard restart your comp. then let it boot. when it get to the screen where you have to enter your password to login to your comp. press and hold shift, while doing this click the power button on the bottom right of screen. then while still holding shift down click restart. This lets you boot into advanced options. Click, advanced options, then click rollback to previous build, then follow the steps from there.
Hope this works for you!

Safe Mode actualy did allow both programs to load, albeit in a woefully terrible and unusable screen resolution. Furthermore, looking at the Windows Event Viewer shows that both Photoshop and Poser are crashing due to an issue with the same file: NTDLL.DLL

So... I was trying to get back into the swing of things and loaded up my Poser Pro 2012, and now I get a message saying that the program has stopped responding, right at the splash screen. This is with the newest Windows 10 update that came out yesterday, and I -know- it used to work before the update.
Has anyone experienced this issue in the past day or two and found a workaround? I made sure that my Poser Pro was up to date, and as much as I'd love to upgrade to one of the newer versions, that's just not in the cards, according to my wallet.
