Subject: In my grubby big hands

manleystanley ( ) posted Wed, 19 March 2014 at 11:08 PM

I don't get a lot of use out of the mill3 muscle maps, but I bought them for the muscel bump anyway. That is a quick toss together with M3, still a good character to work with.

That beard is one of my favorites to work with. Wish it worked better on Genesis.

I have the elite textures for V4, and a couple of hirez ones for M4. Basically I have to load a blank genesis in studio, apply a mil4 texture, and save out. In carrara I just have to hunt down the elite textures to rebuild them to the genesis shader order. Then dragNdrop the univercial shader ball and name. Excluding test renders about a half an hour per.

That also means setting up preset characters for easy carrara use.

I had a brain storm, and this may sound stupid, but I think I'll run V4 through an animation with the dynaimc pencial skirt, then drape a soft cloth skirt over it in carrara, then vanish the pencial skirt. Don't laugh, my hair brained sceams some times work lol

Was playing around with some more stretching, this time I maxed genesis hieght by stretching the legs arms and torso. It was an interesting animation watching her grow, but the clothes had issues keeping up, so I need to rerun it with a bra on her. ![](http://www.renderosity.com/mod/forumpro/art/emoticons/lol.gif)

The other issue was bad seems showing on the thighs. I'd say the poly stretching was a bit much.

Here's my "scene subset" folder in Studio. Just seems to be the folder things open best to carrara from. Some of these I've worked in carrara already. The rest are nice charaters that I have no scene for lol Some are animations I've yet to get to work the way I want. But "The 50 second drunk" may be my forst real aniamtion. Trying to get the aniblocks for 2 characters in the scene to sink is a . Both will have dynaimc clothes and are taking some time; several runs, to drape right.

If I can get all that worked out and in to carrara the next challenge will be the gun shots; of coarse key framing part of the animation in carrara should prove to be fun as well.

"O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!"

Finally got soft body physics to work on genesis autofit clothes.

This is the exact same thing I have done yet crashed carrara 9 times before; testing different clothes.

Select the actor, go to the modeling room, click view uncheck protected topoligy.

Apply the soft body modifier. Be sure to softbody attach buttons, zippers and such.

Set your scene physics, bullet, use gravety, colision distence 5%

Click simulate physics and wwwwaaaaaiiiittttttt lol

The above picture was me curing the boob tuck that you get from autofit quit often. It is a lowish poly blouse and skirt. Yes both have been soft bodied.

Bullet may not be ready for dynaimc clothing aniamations, but I found during the C8.5 beta that it gave clothes a nice drape for stills. It was an easy fix for boob tuck but buttons and such need to be soft body attatched before draping. In the above picture you cant see the waist band string from the dress laying on her foot lol

I pined the one on the blouse but when I pined the one on the dress the drape went all wonky on the blouse. Not at all sure why.

Well now I have run in to some really bizzar camera issue both poped up in the same scene.

First a simple straight position change from a to b, I hit animate and the camera desides to go through neverland to get to b from a. 3 different cameras same out come. It's just like a 3 meter straight slide but the camera goes way out of the scene in some strange orbital spinning path

So I decided to do the camera on a plank; drop in a cube flaten it stretch it to the right camera distenc, drop it on genesis hip, move it so one end is on genesis, drop the camera on the plank and move it to the other end. Animating the camera will follow/track the figure nicly; though uinsteady. Got it set up, clicked animate and... the camera vanishes. More over the scene seen through the vanished camera is just genesis rigging, nothing else is in the scene; renders fine. It's easy enough to make the camera visable because the bug just unselects visibility. Select visibility and the camera has trippled in size I can't find anyway to get the scene back when viewed through the camera. 3 cameras, same thing all 3 times.

Now, that's just too weird.

More fun with Studio content not working in Carrara. Studio came with shady places, a classic arbor. Carrara can't open the scene it's self so I opened it in Studio and saved the DUF, opened in carara, reset the textures; alpha, highlight, and bump, then rendered. No leaves or flowers on the plants, just stems. Checked the shader again. All was good. moved the camera and rendered again. Still no leaves or flowers. Back to the shader again and then realized what the issue was. The plants were made with Ivygenerator which does not work well with carrara. There is no fix to it, the leaves are not uvmapped to work in carrara so they are transparent in the render.

Half an hour to make a thumb to save a scene?

The picture above is after half an hour and carrara still hasn't even begun to save the scene.

I'm sorry I don't need a photo quality thumb.

Up to 45 minutes now and carrara still hasn't actually saved the scene.

Carrara wouldn't have half the issues it does if DAZ would actually listen to it's users rather then ignor them.

As in there is absolutly no need to do a full quality render for a thumb. It should just render a thumb at default settings.

Shader room role back should have been fixed in C6, C9 is on it's way; if you beleive what they say as DAZ, and I'll bet big money we will still have the role back shader list.

Yesterday I found this future mall model, downloaded it, open it in carrara and went to fix all the shaders, 87. Select the shader fix it, scroll down, select a shader, fix it, scroll down. I spent more time scrolling down to select shaders then I did fixing them; and still only got half way before I was just to aggrivated to do more; of coarse the lack of any UV mapping on the model means it's a waste of my time anyway. I mean I would have to take it in to Hex to cut it apart by it's shader zones to reuvmap everything. Did not know this till I had already fixed several shaders.

And this is why I got banned from the DAZ forum, heaven forbid you should talk about the miriad of issues with carrara on the DAZ forum, after all it is just a sales propaganda forum anyway.

And now for something completelt different "Gone to far". Still trying to find a good HDRI. This one would work better if I could turn the HDRI on X axis, spin it around so the light in the HDRI is with the scene lighting.

booksbydavid ( ) posted Wed, 26 March 2014 at 11:02 AM

Not bad. Like the trail of light coming down.

Yeah, that shader scroll down hassle bugs me all the time. It's a habit now. I automatically start to scroll whenever I go in to change any shaders. That's a habit I'd like to break.

manleystanley ( ) posted Wed, 26 March 2014 at 12:54 PM

That is one of the light lens effects; effects tab. Several presets as well as a lot of custamisation options.

Ok, here it finally is, hair with SSS and HDRI. Looks good but is a big hit to render time. That is a 10 hour render.

Genasis in V4's valentine teddy, August hair, in V4's HiDef Amy skin; one of the elite textures although I rest the shader.

I'm not happy witht he bump or eye shine, but other wise it came out nice. I'm not sure about the settings on the SSS though. If some one likes I can put up the settings.

booksbydavid ( ) posted Tue, 01 April 2014 at 10:52 AM

I can imagine that hair would cause your cpu to have a heart attack. That's a lot of hair. I don't use that one much. As a matter of fact, most of my recent renders have used short hair just so I don't have to wait until next Christmas for the render to complete.

Interesting about the eye shine. I can see the highlights on the lips. Strange that the eyes aren't showing similar highlights.

tsarist ( ) posted Tue, 01 April 2014 at 8:20 PM

That hair looks pretty good Stan.

I started using Carrara's dynamic hair for many of my stills.

It renders slowly, but when it works right, it looks great!

Am actually surprised we don't end up getting more Carrara hair, with how good it turns out.

manleystanley ( ) posted Wed, 02 April 2014 at 8:49 AM

First up that is regular or conforming hair. I'd hate to think what the render time would have been for dynaimc hair and SSS lol And a prime example of why I wish I had 4 more of this comp.

The problem with dynamic wigs; if you will, is they don't remain consistent. To see what I mean spend some time styling the hair, save just the hair, then drop it on another figure. Ya, but short hair could easily be done with just a dynaimc hair shader rather then a full dynaimc hair set. Not sure why we don't see a lot of that.

This comp continues to amaze me, it's stats aren't great; i5 and 6 gig, but it's a serious work horse; gateways usually are. I've had Studio working on dynamic clothing while carrara was rendering, and watching a show waiting on both. Not a skip, glitch, or slow down. So that aprilamarseda hair doesn't cause me much slow down. Using that same hair in previous comps would bring a render to a stand still.

But as amazing as hair looks with SSS unless you are doing a close up portrate it's not really worth the quite extended render times. Clothes with SSS; which makes sheer, see though clothes more real, don't take near the render time hit because of the hair transparencies.

Having more fun. Bought the animate runway construction set; model walks and poses, and was working with it yesterday. I was working on having V5 walk through optitex curtains wareing an optitex dynamic dress. Optitex dynamics don't respect each others surfaces like they did in DS3 so the dress and curtains kept snaging on each other. 3 hours of trying yesterday and all I had to show for it was a bad headache; got myself just a bit worked up. It looks like I am just going to have to forget about a graphics card for a bit and get Animate2 for Studio. I've just needed it too often not to have it; and it's onsale right now for as low as I've seen it. If I want this animation to work I'm going to have to tweek the aniblock. Of coarse then I could fix the genesis foot and toe issue; most aniblocks seem to be for mil4 figures so the can do nasty things to genesis, G2  feet and hands.

Don't get me started on NLA clips. If they worked dependably DAZ would be selling NLAblocks

Today it's suposed to rain all day so I can't continue my spring prep of the yard so I guess I will be forced to work with these frustrating apps all day

manleystanley ( ) posted Wed, 02 April 2014 at 2:26 PM

This old dog just learned a new trick

I had 6 patio chairs and 3 lounge chairs to retexture, did one, looked at the list and thought "what the L" and grabbed the multiple shader domain ball, drug it over to the next chair on the list in the sequencer, and dropped it.

It worked

booksbydavid ( ) posted Wed, 02 April 2014 at 10:45 PM

manleystanley ( ) posted Thu, 03 April 2014 at 8:24 AM

When I was learning how to use shaders it seems every screwy idea I came up with worked.

One of the new options in C8.5 is the complex shaders, one of those is the multichannel mixer. You can use this with a template to have chromo accents on black leather with only one shader zone.

Here is something I'm sure DAZ will find a way to put a stop too. Much like forcing CMS down carraraest throats by making it a manditory install to use autofit; DAZ knew carraraests would never use it other wise. Being able to refit autofitted clothes will cost DAZ money, so I am sure they will find a way to "fix" it.

This is a rerefit. S3 clothes fited to genesis then refitted to G2F. 4 tests and all went well except for; of coarse, shoes. Shoes seem to be like skins, best on they figure they are designed for. But then that doesn't explain why genesis shoes get mangeled going on genesis lol

No retexturing yet, I was surprised G2Fs skin made it through. Most of the time my Studio scene subset imports come through all gray.

booksbydavid ( ) posted Fri, 04 April 2014 at 10:32 AM

Interesting. You're probably right. Next version of Carrara you probably won't be able to do that.

manleystanley ( ) posted Fri, 04 April 2014 at 11:04 AM · edited Fri, 04 April 2014 at 11:05 AM

I can't do it in carrara now. I have to do my fitting in Studio because DAZ fobard autofit in the release version of C8.5.

I absolutly refuse to have CMS on my comp.

manleystanley ( ) posted Sun, 06 April 2014 at 8:30 AM

Man, all this time and I still can't get the Black widow morphing motorcycle to load to carrara. It always loads to carrara with all morphs 0ed and none of the morphs seem to work in carrara. Got to be some way in Studio to lock the morphs and save it that way to open in carrara.

Other then that I have been shopping at DAZ. First because I actually had some money left from my income tax return after getting the parts to fix my jeep and getting the stuff I need for spring yard work. Second because I haven't shopped at DAZ in 2 years. And third, it's hard to pass up 88% off

I got the City streets construction set. Seems cool but is missing a few pieces. I mean there are parts in the preload sections{cr2} that aren't in the individual pieces{pp2}. I also got the moonlight drive in. Small and lacking. For the price though it is worth it. I had to drop in 4 preloads and pump the screen up .5; that is half again bigger, to get a decent sized drive-in. But I still have to come up with a projection shack/snack bar. Makes me wonder if people didn't know drive-ins had a projection shack, they weren't huge plasma screens lol

I'm using the city streets to make something too big for my lacking in ambition. I'm working on a big city park, the city streets is the out side border. I think I have enough buildings to surround the park; got all of Andi3D's buildings {hmm, after a search it appears Andi3d is no more}. As well as a few 3DS prop buildings; a box with a building texture lol I may not finish it but It's a good excersize in figureing out how to use the city streets set.

manleystanley ( ) posted Mon, 07 April 2014 at 9:27 AM

You're right that is a skate park, EtniesPark. It's the HDRI I used for that render, but I'm just using an open sky HDRI I made with carrara and Genestica for the scenes.

And that is wildmane for genesis. I need to tame it a bit.

As usual for me this started off as an intament picnic/date. And now I'm hard at work making the park lol When I got the city steerts cunstruction set; if you're in the Pclub and don't have it it's well worth the $1.99, I got the idea for a city park. Trees and shrubs will be carrara's, except for the cherry trees I'll put in that median. Those as well as any flowers will be Lisa's. And as far as the rest, well, I do have litterly dozens of gigs of props, I'm sure I can fill a park with appropriate content lol.

I'd like to do a full park, and I mean one I can do an animated walk through of. I might as well show me building it and giving credit; if at all possable, for the parts I use.

So far that is carrara's terrain converted to vert to model to suit the scene. And petipet's City roads at DAZ. Man, I used to know the names of all the DAZ PAs, I don't recognize many now.

But I think I can start this story. I mean this is just going to be a series of renders with this couple and the G2 effection poses; on G1 lol

Carol and Danny went on a couple of dates in highchool, but they just didn't click then. Carol went off to college and got a degree in library scince. Danny became an archatect. Recently Danny ran in to Carol while researching old city plans at the library. They chated for a bit and decided to go on a picnic.
