Super work, thanks for posting. I, like you, enjoy the challenge of creating scenes completely within Vue. I would like to know more about your modeling theories for clouds using hypertextures. I've done a bunch of research into hypertextures using GridModeler to create real objects, but not soft modeled organics, like clouds. 

Perhaps you can start a new thread on your modeling theories?

Dax Pandhi uses hypertextures on metablobs to create interesting rock structures.

I agree, the FE is fun to play around with. Hard to ultimately master, but there's always interesting discoveries. :-)

What you could try, if you want to apply a cloud texture to an object, is create a Metacloud,
then delete all spheres expect for the last one. This way you have a sphere and you can start shaping your cloud inside of this sphere.

Probably not what you want, but I do not see any alternative.

Yeah, I know you do modeling with Vue and you are doing really great things with it. I have you Grid Modeler pack. It`s amazing to see how precisely and quickly you can create elements by using your techniques and templates.

I must admit that I have not taken the time yet to go through it in full detail, because my main focus is on creating organic looking terrains and clouds.

I should start a new thread which is entirely Density/FE related. Will think about it. Have posted a couple of tips already but they are spread across several threads.

Have seen Dax Pandhi`s pictures and have also checked out the method he is using to create his rock formations. Using Metablobs along with bump displacement is surely a good method for creating interesting 3D terrains or terrain elements.

My hypertexture terrain modeling approach is a bit different as you might guess. I prefer, just as with clouds, to sculpt those terrains inside of a uniform density area, for example a single cube object.
With my method it`s not possible to use bump displacement, but this is not necessary because all displacements are generated by the FE.

With my method you can create full 3D landscapes. (See below)

And using the same function tree in your mats you have a great amount of control over color, reflection, highlight etc of specific areas of the terrain.

What`s also great is that the same FE elements, that work with hypertexture, will also work with cloud layers.

I see a lot of potential in this density sculpting approach, however rendering can be really slow with our 2009 computers...

Oh that's a nifty terrain! :)
I'm used ot the idea of using duplicated cubes, metablobbed to make rock objects (can't recall who discovered that, rememebr seeing it on here long time ago, was it Dax?) which is a brilliant trick, but that weird formation you came up with...mmm, groovy!

well me, personally, I like things I can "touch", as it were
long time ago I used to have fair share of brains :p but no matter what after a certain point, advanced algebra just...made no sense.  Just the way folk are, somethings "click" and some don't
the basics of the Function Editor I'm fine with, but I don't "see how it builds the thing" if it's all just in the function editor beyond a certain point of complexity. You need to relaly graps what each funciton does and the effect it has on the final item
Everyone has their skills, but that ain't mine, but am very glad Eonite has that skill :)

Onething I relaly bloody need to do, is create a decent LAYERED material version of my dirt map material, ie just  a material to add on as a layer, not as mixed material as I have it now,
never found a satisfactory solution to layered version, though, and dirt mapping is essential, IMHO.

I was going trough some old stuff.. and find  I did a redo of the nuke.

This one is much more simple, just one material and 3 lights.

(I managed it even without the function Editor ;-)
