Subject: Upgrade grumble ...

A_Sunbeam ( ) posted Tue, 18 August 2009 at 6:27 AM · edited Mon, 02 March 2026 at 6:08 AM

I have Adobe CS2 and wanted to get Photoshop CS4. But if you want to upgrade you have to buy the upgrade for CS4, not just Photoshop. Which I can't afford.
Just wanted to let off steam ...

Your information is incorrect. You can just upgrade Photoshop from Photoshop CS2 to Photoshop CS4 without getting the whole shebang. I got Dreamweaver CS4 instead of the whole thing because I don't need the whole thing... I only wanted what I needed and can afford. Just get the Photoshop version you need. They only make it so confusing, so you will end up spending more for some things that you really don't need. I don't need Illustrator. Hardly ever use it.  It's all a marketing ploy ...

Ah but I haven't got just Photoshop CS2 - I've got the full Creative Suite 2; and you can't upgrade from that to Photoshop CS4.

ThunderStone ( ) posted Tue, 18 August 2009 at 4:21 PM

Yes, you can... Go to Adobe store and look for Photoshop Upgrade ... you don't need to upgrade the whole suite if there is something that you don't need or can't afford at the moment. I got Creative Suite 2 also... I don't need the whole suite, just Dreamweaver upgrade from CS2 to CS4... well ...
I got it... Before I got it, I got online with the rep in the store and asked questions... Even tho they tried to push the whole suite, I told them politely but firmly I only need Dreamweaver. I don't know what I needed in terms of tools, only that I was in web production and don't need anything like the soundbooth or illustrator or indesign. Flash is a want but for future date, Fireworks is also needed but that is at a future upgrade. Photoshop is needed but also for future... Needed right now was Dreamweaver and that is all I could afford. Got Dreamweaver upgrade. Photoshop is just around the bend as soon as I can afford it. I might get Flash first.... The point is, you can upgrade your suite collection the way you want it, not the way they are pushing it. You know what you need. They can only guesstimate (IMHO, very badly, too) and push their software collection with unneeded and unnecessary softwares. If you only need Photoshop and know what version you want, then by all means, go and upgrade it... Go talk with the adobe store rep and see what I mean.

Had a message from a friend in a Design house. He also has CS2 and bought the Photoshop upgrade alone. When installing the installer said it couldn't find the application - it was asking for a version of Photoshop, not the entire Suite. When he typed in his Photoshop serial number it was rejected. He says there's info on Adobe site that confirms he can't upgrade from CS2 (full) to CS4 Photoshop; he has to upgrade from a version of Photoshop.
I'll tell him what you said.

Here's what Adobe say:

"Am I eligible for upgrade pricing from an earlier suite edition to a standalone product?

No. Upgrade pricing is available only if you have one of the qualifying earlier products listed on the upgrade eligibility page of the product you wish to purchase and can provide the serial number for that product during installation.

Creative Suite Premium or Standard; Creative Suite 2 Premium or Standard; Production Studio; and Macromedia Studio do not qualify for upgrade pricing on standalone products such as Photoshop CS4, Illustrator CS4, or Dreamweaver CS4."

So it can't be done.
The only other version I have of Photoshop is Photoshop 7; but that's not in their upgrade list either.
I shall continue with my CS2 version.

I got an Email promo from Adobe about a $299.00 upgrade to Photoshop CS4 from Photoshop Elements version(s) 4,5,6,or7 (offer ends September 15).

Everytime I’ve purchased a scanner, printer, Wacom, etc., they always toss in a copy of Elements, so maybe you have a copy laying around somewhere also.

I recieved the same promotion only for Adobe Premier Elements Upgrade for $299 to Adobe Premier Pro CS4.
The Point is that you can get on EBAY and purchase an inexpensive version of Photoshop Elements and then Upgrade from there to Photoshop CS4.

I would rather be Politically Incorrect,
Then have Politically Correct-Incorrectness!!!

Adobe Photoshop Elements (Mac OS) 6.0, 4.0, or 3.0 Adobe Photoshop CS4 US$599 Adobe Photoshop Elements (Windows®) 7.0, 6.0, 5.0, or 4.0 Adobe Photoshop CS4 US$599

Your $299 is definitely a special offer! This is the upgrade price that Adobe has on its site.
