I didnt use PZ3 files... I like to create inside Carrara only...

even i did that, I have some premade pz3s that I will want. REally nice scenes.

Sueposer, have you got poserpro. I have things in external runtimes, and when I try to open the file like you suggest, some of the textures import fine, and some don't.

that looks good. what about pz3? seems to be having problems finding things - probalby because I have external runtimes?

If you are importing objects that rely on the poser material room for their textures, carrara cannot handle them. It brings in texture maps beautifully. That might be why you sometimes have success and sometimes not.
For objects with poser materials, C6 should still bring in the plain gray object, then you can apply carrara shaders to it.
no that is not the problem. As well as the PZ3 I have the original props in a props folder, and i have added that whole runtime into my content browser in carrara, yet when I pick one of the things that didn't receieve a texture in the pz3 after carrara import, then when i try to open the same thing from the content browser carrara is asking me where the texture is - a perfectly normal jpg and once i find it for carrara the texture imports just fine.

If I knew what part of the pz3 carrara doesn't like and how to help it find the textures it is possible I could find a way to adjust my pz3s on mass so they would be compatible.

Why you dont break the file in 2? One with one character and other with the other one?

Carrara does not do a deep search for the textures. If they are not right there in the same folder as the pz3, then you have to tell it where to go (back in your props runtime, for example).
If all the textures came from the same runtime originally, then you should only have to tell Carrara once and it will continue to look there for any subsequent textures.
I like that scene, by the way. Are you going to put some actors in it? It looks like the set for a tv drama.
Hi there,
well I put a koji, M3 and V4 in it, fully dressed in poser. Tooned them all and it has been quite good for a comic I'm doing.
the latest version of toonpro in carrara sounds extremely good but i won't have the time to do all the texture finding that carrara seems to need to load in my content,
even loading my external runtimes seems to be one at a tim only.
so i guess if i merged all my textures into one giant folder i could get carrara to behave??
i wonder if there will be a fix for this

well there is the problem that carrara can't search subfolders for the textures - ie deep search.. to put all my textures into one folder will create disorganixation with overweriting of same name textures like silver.jpg, (of course I would have to keep all my normal texture folders separately so I will be doublingup)i think that is a carrara deficiency.

I have been very clear over the years never to move files from the locations in which they arrived./downloaded
If you move any item,/file,--- and this has application with any app, Photoshop, 3d, whatever,--- you immediately create a search problem.
I repeat, it's not a Carrara problem.
(I still have my various versions of Poser--many--still loaded on the computer--and those files, for each, are readily accesed by Carrara even though I haven't actually used any Poser app (even 7) for yonks!)
Hope that makes sense?

well I left much of my content in their original runtimes, what could be more straightforward than that? Accessed by poser as external runtimes.
o r u saying that if I had put these runtimes internally into the main poser runtime, that carrara wouldn't have a problem accessing the textures?
I even converted my pz3 so it had absolute paths, but carrara still can't find things.

ˆs a CZ# like a pZ3? I will try other scenes. Maybe it is just that particular content.
I'll do some expreimenting, but according to sueposer it won't work-
"Carrara does not do a deep search for the textures. If they are not right there in the same folder as the pz3, then you have to tell it where to go (back in your props runtime, for example). "

well poser does a deep search - power pro that is. and my files are properly referened I think. I have used a pyton script to make absolute pathways out of the relative pathways to test in carrara. It works for vue. didnb't work for carrara though.

Hi Estherau, isnt more easy to reassembele this scene in Carrara again? Carrara is far more easy to do this, and it have collision detection so you can put things in plac emore easy then in Poser. At first sight it can look more difficult but isnt! You have all controls in the mouse to move, rotate and pan the can so you can see the scene in any angle. Put things in place is only to drag and drop from the Browser...and here a hiden tip: smart propers are supported in Carrara, you only need to drag the proper to the Instance window and it will go in place, if you drag to the assembler window it will go in the center of the scene.

I don't know if this will help, but I sometimes use a slightly different workflow. I use the "Advanced Library" program for poser. It has a few advantages over C6 or Poser for importing/loading content. First off, it has a beautiful search function which will even tell you the names of the specific files that make up a poser content item. You can do a search and it will bring up the thumbnails which match the search criteria, and on the left, if you have all of the basic categories (Figures, Poses, Props, Hair.. Etc...) expanded, when you click on an item, it will show you exactly what poser folder it is in. It can also be used to load files into poser so you don't have to deal with the slow cumbersome and pretty much useless Poser Library. To do this you will need the Remote Procedure Call Python Script. I will provide some links at the end of this message.
The other feature which I find invaluable is the capability to import poser content directly into Carrara from the Advanced Library application. I sometimes use this if I run into a situation where for some reason poser will not load or oad correctly a piece of Poser content. It's very easy to set up and the search functions save a LOT of time. Maybe DAZ will someday add this functionality to Carrara itself but I use the AL program to find what I want, then I normally use Carrara to open it or AL to import it.
Here is a link to the main Advanced Library program (BYW it is totally free. http://www.neocron.lunarpages.com/library/
Here is a link to the free Poser Remote Procedure Call Python script.

Give it a shot, its really a time saver.
I have had this great "p3Do " Poser etc explorer for several years, updated when applicable.
It is one of the better general search/find/display engines around.
However, have never had to use it, with the way I am set up. for the Poser/Carrara6 connections.
