Subject: Before I buy...

jefsview ( ) posted Sat, 22 December 2007 at 4:26 PM · edited Wed, 15 July 2026 at 11:58 AM

Now that the official release of C6 is a few months and service patches behind us, I need an answer before I upgrade to C6:

Is Apollo Maximus fully compatible/functional within C6? I'm referring to his ADS scaling dials.

Also, are the .cr2, .pz3 import bugs from the initial release fixed?

Also, are there any additional products needed, i.e. shaders, and if so, any recommendations?

Sale ends in a few days, and some funds have finally become available, so I would appreciate any and all comments/answers.

Thanks.

I dunno about apollo max ..
I have C6 Pro and importing PZ3  files from Poser work only with P6 not P7 !

On the otherhand ..CAR is good i realy realy like it..
Car 6 Pro is worth the money...
Im thinking of starting CAR suport instead of DS suport for my products ..

pz3 files containing an animated scene are now working for me (6.02X). it even notifies me if the firewire drive containing the poser app is turned off. most of the ADS_Scale dials work. but I still can't get the eye dials to work. eye target doesn't work, either, excepting that it causes the entire body to bend toward it.

jefsview ( ) posted Sat, 22 December 2007 at 6:11 PM

Thanks. Have you tried the Predatron alternate EYEz package for a "fix" Miss Nancy?

As far as the pz3 goes, over at the DAZ forums, post state that if you point C6 towards a Poser 6 exe, it'll open P7 files (and I still have a copy of P6, so that shouldn't be a problem).

Just needed to make certain that Apollo's ADS dials work, since I use him most of all the human figures. I missed the release price, and didn't want to miss this chance to pick up C6 at this price.

I appreciate you both for taking the time to answer.

Oh, and Merry Xmas/Yule -- happy holidays, regardless ;)

I think that if there something not working, they are ony few things at all. Themost recent build is 6.03 and theres some products for Carrara now here and at Daz like shaders and gidomes (some are mine...hehehe) but theres a new dynamic hair and many others products that only Carrara can offer. The displacement paint, hair and the great render engine talkfor it self, far fast and better then Poser and D|S.

It's on my WIshlist. Looks like it's on sale, too.

It's a shame that 3Delight is crippled in D|S (I think there were licensing issues, since 3delight costs $1,000US for the full version). Poseworks has activated a few of the features w/ plugins, but still far from the complete renderer. It's a top line production renderer, 100% renderman compliant. They should at least have the option for people that have the real deal to activate it for D|S renders.

Yes, 3Delight is a great render engine but like you said need to deal with licensing use to get the full potential. But D|S dont have a modeler option, dynamic hair and other things. Carrara isan all in one solution, not only a pose and render software, its is like I like to say: a  little Vue,  withsome Lightwave and Zbruh tools. I think in some more releases it can be more and more powerfull and get a place among the big ones.

Well, I don't know what happened...my post went off into the great digital wasteland...
Anyway; Carrara needs lot of work if it is going to compete w/ 3ds max, maya, xsi, etc.
I don't think DAZ is interested in making it into what it could be. They just want another content conduit.

The Carrara principle NEVER was to "compete" with 3D Max etc.

For crying out loud!

Carrara has, allways, been regarded, reported, etc, etc as "probably the best value for money, genuine, all round 3D app!"

It meets those criteria superbly!

Yeah, I'd agree with that; but I also think that if a company would put some serious work into the program it could compete with ANY app on the market in most respects (they all have certain aspects that they surpass everything else in).

Sorry, I didn't mean to start an arguement.

Merry holidays, folks!

Okay, so I bought myself a Xmas present :) I figured Xmas eve would be a great time to download this program. Still taking a while on DSL.

Hopefully I'll adapt from Poser quickly. I never did devote much time to C5, but that was because of it's lack of Poser content support.

I'm pretty burned out on Poser, especially after it devoured my Xmas card files before finishing them. I'll be studying C6 and making the most of it, but it'll have to wait until the weekend, since later today (Xmas), I'm expecting to bring home a router and need to hook that up to my 2 computers. Plus get this HD tv set up on the newer computer, too.

Looking forward to working, learning and screaming at C6 ;)

A quick follow-up question: what are good shaders/plug-ins needed for the best indoor/outdoor STILL scenes? I don't plan on doing much modelling (don't have the brain for it; more artistic and less practical), nor for animation.

Thanks.

Thanks, GK.

I've been futzing around with C6 today. Managed to get my Runtimes loaded up in the browser and did some preliminary tests on Apollo. I noticed that I lose any scaling presets (ADS dials) if I zero pose him and have to reset them. One can type in the negative values, so that isn't lost. And I can pose/move his eyes with direct manipulation but the sliders don't work (neither does his line of sight feature).

I was enjoying posing him with direct manipulation; always in Poser, I used the dials, since Poser always over-extended the slightest nudge. C6 is easier, so that should be fun.

I've noticed that when scaled, clothing comforms better than within Poser, but needs tweaking. Might still just uses pose setting later on. Like I said, it was just a preliminary run. I have LOTS to learn, since C6 is very foreign to me still. New terminology, new rooms, new everything.

But I love exploring. It took quite a while before I found the right way to conform clothing. I knew the feature was there (after reading about it), but I didn't know where.

I love the fact that I can remodel clothing within C6 and have instant results. Can't wait to try the morphing features.

I loaded content from both the Browser, as well as a direct PZ3 import. C6 had no trouble finding the files (that was encouraging).

Overall, I'm pleased with my first night of futzing around with C6.
