Subject: New>Empty Scene Sizes

bwtr ( ) posted Sun, 23 September 2007 at 8:39 PM ยท edited Tue, 28 July 2026 at 12:06 PM

Sorry if this has been covered before.

Firstly, I am not really understanding any of the features and benefits of the individual 3 sizes offered.

The large size seems to be pretty useless for using anything imported---even old .car file object saves?

It seems, though not clear/explained,/specified,  that some of the items in the Carrara Browser, and other workings, have been fiddled with to make them only, or more, suitable for the large size?

Thus a conflict of interest in real life working needs?

Any help ,explanation, appreciated.

I have found that using the empty scene means that the poser characters and c6pro primitives come in without the need for major resizing. but the c6pro browser objects .... I dunno. are they still the same ones that were in the objects browser in ray dream?

Miss Nancy. Thanks for the reply.  Poser imports seem, to me, to only import fairly close to "needs" with the "Medium" scene. (If you have tried to bring ANYTHING into the large scene you will know!)

If you have saved anything you have made, into your browser objects file in C5, bringing that into your C6 Browser seems (to me)  to create "size" changes not necessarily related to C5 experience.

Sorry, RayDream should never come up in discussion any more." Prehistoric" history?

yeah, but it seems like they've been using the same objects since at least carrara 1, which was ray dream 6. the poser figures come in the same size in both the medium and large empty scenes, but of course the poser figure is gonna be extremely far from the camera in the large scene. so it will look microscopic, even tho it's still 72 to 90 inches.

I was not thinking of the inbuilt Carrara old objects rather of my own  FAR greater quantity/range of saved items into the browser. Maybe they are ok in the Medium? But it woulld seem a lot of other items in the browser, Landscapes and (? )only work best with the large size--or am I wrong?

Anyway, what is the use, AT ALL,of the large system if you can not reasonably, or at all, effectively make use of other items placed into the scene?

As my first post, ----Features and Benefits?

(What is the use of an SWF tute of doing clouds using the Surface Replicator in the large scene if you don't know how to adapt it to a , usable, (practicable!) medium, scene?)

Add---"Rules to allow interchangeabilty of working operations between scene sizes settings"?
(Which inbuilt things in Carrara 6 need these new  "rules" application information?)

I would add perhaps, my new learning after 3 days of utter frustration, NEVER apply grass (hair) to a Terrain untill the VERY END of your workings on the scene. Just think of the working limitations that apparent definite rule does to working approaches?

Some experiments in C6.

Dream Island (Wizard)--Large
Dream Island (Wizard)--Medium
Dream Island (Scenes)--Medium
Dream Island (Scenes)--Large

Compare with C5?(Note any variantions between the Motion Tabs information!)

Hi bwtr -- I like to think of the scene size as the dimensions of the virtual 'stage' that I'm 'shooting' on -- you have your choice of a 30 inch stage for objects and closeups, a 30 foot stage for rooms, people, etc., and a 3000 foot stage for landscapes, space scenes, etc. Objects come into each stage at their fixed virtual size -- you may have to resize things so that they are in scale with each other. For example, Michael 2 comes into a medium scene at right about 6 feet tall; in a small scene at just over 72 inches tall -- about the same height either way. The only difference is whether he's standing in a 30 inch stage or a 30 foot stage. I believe the stage size will also impact scene effects like atmosphere, etc., and how fast you can move the camera through the area. Now, my only problem with this is that I created a lot of stuff previously without being accurate about the scale -- but it's fairly easy to resize things using the Motion tab...

I think it has been discovered that if you use the landscape wizard, the scene will be set to large; no matter what you choose.  Hopefully this will be fixed in the SR.  This is exactly what happens to me anyway.

Dave. Perhaps my maths are not good, (well there not), but I can not arrive at a working size increase percentage to get an object looking the same size in the large size as it does in the medium. (Both resizing in the motion tab and moving/adjusting items in the scene seems --well-- pretty unworkable?)

(As basic stuff  questions in my original post)
